--ww-nunq ENS David C. Morris Electricial Officer Engineering Department is why the U.S. Navy exists - They're what make us mobile. Their job encompasses everything from the anchor windlass on the fo- csle to the massive rudders aft, from the aircraft warning lights on top of the mast to the screws deep below the waterline. Many spend days upon end deep in the main spaces, not knowing whether it's night or day, sunny or raining, they just keep the en- gines running, electricity com- ing, and fresh water flowing. JOHN RODGERS' modern en- gineering plant eases their job somewhat. Gone are the steam boilers making engine rooms re- semble saunas, replaced with modern gas turbines: quiet, cool, efficient. In the central control station, valves align, fuel flows, and engines start at the push of a button. These are the men that enable the ship to master the seas. JOHN RODGERS derives her graceful maneuverability from her twin rudders, her twin screws push her at 30+ knots. . 37 mr, -W if s, .... .,........ A, ,, ,,9..-- .. ,
