Adios Leaving Montivideo, the combine navies continued OPERATION UNITAS with a ten day at sea operation. As all good things must end, on 24 November 1960, the navies of Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, and the United States- -twenty ships in an eleven mile column --entered Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. For four days,sightseeing,shopping for Christmas and general resting was enjoyed by all hands. And then on 28 November 1960, the USS JOHN PAUL JONES and Task Force 86 bade farewell and set course for Newport, R,l, with a short stop at Trinidad. The second crossing of the Equator was not like the first. This time an evening of entertainment was planned and a picnic was held on the fantail. Arriving at Newport at 1600 on the 13th of December 1960 liberty and leave com- menced, a period of well earned rest with a job well done behind the USS JOHN PAUL JONES and her crew. 60
