HUJAMBO, BWANA MAMA ? (How arc you?) asks Bwana Chiva-ura. The students reply Hatv-Jambo (we're fine). SEATED ARE Chestana Fleetwood, Stephanie Garland, Marjorie Kerns, Valerie Abernathy, and Rodney Smith. Swahili Continues To Grow One Swahili student asked his classmate, Jina Lako Nani? (what is your name). The other student replied, Jina Langu John (My name is John). Mwalinu Bwana Chivaura speaks very’ little English in his classes. One prominent author explains it this way. The instructor should use Swahili almost exclusively. He should resist the temptation to give explanations in English and decline answer any English questions. This forces the students to talk and think in the new language from the start. The students engage in research, conduct panel discussions, and rap1 in Kcswahili, whenever they find an opportune moment. A Special Kind Of Class John Hay is fortunate in providing facilities for a special kind of class for orthopedic students. This program is partially funded by the U.S. Gov't, and the Cleveland Board of Education. Students come from Sunbeam School, Pepper Pike, Lakewood and other surrounding schools. According to Mrs. Frances Johnson, head teacher, classes are offered in advanced mathematics, music history, and physical science. Some of our graduates are doing very well on their jobs, she says. Calvin Mayfield is a pre-law student at Morehouse, Glenda Jordan is studying at Kent, and James Jordan is working in the engineering department at City Hall. We congratulate this Special Kind of a Class in a special kind of way. LEARNING HAS NO OBSTACLES- as shown by Jean-nie Horn and Rosemary Porch.
