DRIVING HIS POINTS-Gen. Chappie James speaks while Jerome Lavender, student council president, listens. The “Army11 Comes to John Haj On October 1, 1971, Air Force Brigadier General Daniel Chappie James, deputy assistant secretary of defense in publi affairs, spoke to an appreciative John Hay assembly on the subject of The Future of America. The speaking engagement wx sponsored by The Office of Student Affairs and Office of Aeuro-space Studies. The General stressed these points in his message: When you shout for freedom now, make sure you have a place in which to be free in. The country is more responsive and receptive to your needs today, than ever before. We must operate as a whole American society and not within militancy where the structure is weakened. He reemphasized these points: The need to excel, perform and don't get caught up in a Hate bag. THE GENERAL IS SURROUNDED-L. TO R.: Major Michael R. Homecoming An Unforgetable Memory Homecoming is an annual event sponsored by the Student Council. Homecoming 1971 was held October 16, with the crowning of the new queen. Climaxing the affair was a dance held at the Red Carpet Lounge. The dance was well attended and everyone had a right to celebrate because the Hornets beat East High, 21-16. 17
