On June 13, 1971, more than 200 Seniors marched across the stage to get their diplomas. It was a big day for the seniors who had waited a long time for this unforgettable moment. The auditorium was almost filled to its capacity and the audience applauded when the seniors were introduced. Many of the seniors received scholarships, jobs, and outstanding awards. The class valedictorian was Carol Revels and Rosalyn Littlejohn served as salutatorian. 6 MR. SMITH GETS HIS AWARD--Not really, he is just posing with Sandra Grisson and Debra Love.

SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS-L. TO R.-Audrey Weaver, Sharon Vaughn, Rhoda Wallace, Diane Turner, Cliffie Jones, Harold Smith, Stephanie Poole, Mr. Seldon, principal, Sharon Lewis, Rose Berry, Artley Crutchfield, Debra Clark. Scholarship Dividends Pay October 5, 1971 John Hay recognized and honored its tenth and eleventh grade students who were selected winners in the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation Scholarship Awards Contest, held last semester. The scholarship program was initiated primarily to motivate students to excel in school. The students at John Hay, like many of the inner city schools, have benefited from these foundation grants. The winning students will receive a $500 scholarship toward their tuition. The money is placed in a bank, and left there until the students enroll in college. PARENTS JOIN STUDENTS-It was a happy ocassion for these parents and scholorship winners. 8
