This is the purpose toward which the staff has guided its work in preparing our yearbook. Looking at the pages after completing Reflections 68, we quickly realize that the time and effort devoted to its completion was rewarding. The work was no simple taskg the achieved results were gratifying. lt is with pleasure that we pre- sent this yearbook as a lasting memory of the golden moments of our high school years. Diane A. Ruby Sanders an active Gym leader and Student Council member, feels that her biggest reward has been the Student Council. She remarks that the people were friendly, and says that she will long remember the laughs and Sorrows whilein the Student Coun- cil room. Calin Hudson's biggest reward at I-lay was serving as Student Council President. His biggest laugh was the Student Council picnic watching Robert Acree run into a tree, while playing football. Verene Davis, also an active Gym leader comments on all the memories she will treasure in the team room, and the good times she experienced while in the Gym. Also she will treasure the 1967-68 Basketball season for she feels a certain something for each and every team member! !'! ! ! ! ! Stephen Adams, a very active and talkative young man, says he loves to watch the girls in minis and bobby socks, as well as our faithful security guards trying to catch people. Loretha White enjoyed the fun she obtained while marching in the muddy fields during football season. She will never forget the fun and excitement at the parties after the basketball games! Her and Diane Green will always remember the constant conflict and bickering during the semester on the Yearbook staff. Brenda Walker, is an all-around girl. She has taken shorthand, auto mechanics, and is the President of Future Teachers of America. She knows judo, so watch out young men of Hay, Brenda doesn't play. 33 GRAD ATI G STAFF MEMBER Worlzmanship, devotion, determination, are ingredients used in the publishing of Reflection 68 . The yearbook committee worked diligently, giving up studyhalls, putting in extra time after school. We found later the time and effort were very rewarding. Pictured are staff members of the January 1968 class. Linda Watson, Denise Fenrick and Juanita Hunter left many suggestions and ideas that were used in the contents of this book. 34 THE STAFF UF REFLECTIONS 68 1 ill? ,N ,, xiii: 'Q , m 217 WX, Diane Green, Editor, Mr. Smith, Advisor, going over previous books to sort out good and bad points. The ways in which we acquire our nicknames, sometimes can prove to be quite amusing. One look at Shari Robinson and everyone knows why they call her Dimples , Carolyn Thronton, Smily , or Hannah Coffer Bean . It is not hard to figure out why people call Carl jackson jack , or Charmian Warren Charm , Belinda Crockett B.C. , or Paulette Swoope, Swoope , j. B. is coupled for two people, Joyce Bennet and james Brown. The real fun is trying to figure out unusual nickmames and where they are derived from. Loretha White--says I really can't say how I got this name Refa , but so many persons mispronounce my name that I got stuck with the name of Refa . Verene Davis GingerSnap says that Ginger has been her nickname for a long time, but it wasn't until she came to Hay that someone added the Snap. Ruby Sanders Tism --Her nickname dates back to her junior High School days. People related Ruby to Rheumatism and it seems that the Tism stuck with her. Let's take a look at some more nicknames for the Seniors at john Hay. Rita D. did a backward flip for none other than Mr. All-Star himself . . . and Goofy wasn't so goofy, for he had one on each arm and one tagging behind as he rode away on his little white pig foink, oinkj . . . G. P. found his basketball practice outside the Hornet's nest . . . and Cool handed West laid-up 2 for Miss Wilburn . . Mr. Popular fmelvin erwinj was surprised by a party ,at the Livingston pad . . . and everybody rocked with BIG C. 1. as he grew another year older . . . Miss Mines suffered a cave-in as Dynamite Parker let out a blast . . . Gregory D. has been traveling on E. 109th Street, but it seems that his old home is still giving him some comfort . . . Has Streety been sharing her corn with someone else lately, or does butter just add the needed flavor . . . Miss C. Walker went bird hunting and brought back a Turkey and with the sound of the Bell the Saint went marching in. Here's some more juice-PK fSj Mr. jive is at it again as he polks in and out . . . Ginger has been eating her Cheeri -OATS as they try to add a little spice in her life . . . The Marshall has posted a reward for the capture of a runaway Hut . . . . . and Ronald Wilson seems to be spreading his goodness aboard . . . Miss Wendy announces her engagement to joe Vtdlson and Rhoda Smith plans to wed james Skanes . . . P.S. Hard wasn't so hard-up as he found pleas- ure in sharing his glory with Mr. G. Paul Gone are these days, but NEVER forgotten. Guess who's taking who, and will be seen with who at the Prom? ?? Charm 8 Ernest, Martha G Lamarr St. John, Shari 8 Baskerville, Cheryl and Tony Howell, Sy who is taking Tanzie to the Prom? Cornelius McElrath.
