Various services performed by the Council include supervision of the information desk in the foyer and assisting the homeroom teacher with new students, grades, and the routine of homeroom business. 0003 Quill and Scroll Quill and Scroll is an international society for high school journalists. Requirements for membership are a general scholastic average of B. completion of at least three semesters of journalism and a good record of service on the Ledger staff. The John Hay Ledger Editor-in-Chief Carol Menifee policy that has made the Ledger an award winning paper with page editors Marianne Crittendon, Gloria Patrick, Marion Wesley, and Rosemond Waddell. Ledger Reporters Scurrying about the halls, the reporters keep their eyes and ears-open for the next issue. Assigned beats furnish news to reporters who also keep their eyes open for good feature stories. Hay Ride The Hay Ride committee is responsible for organization, make-up, and copy for the yearbook. They begin their work in the fall by distributing senior questionnaires, and do not rest until April when the Hay Ride is off to the printer. Ledger Secretaries Ledger secretaries are elected by homerooms to serve for one year. They collect money for the activity ticket and distribute the John Hay ledger. Money collected from the activity tickets is used to support the Ledger and to help die athletic department. 43 Ill rain, sun, sleet, or snow the band marches and plays to rally enthusiasm at games. Whether playing for assemblies or pep rallies or marching down the field at games, the band is always welcomed by students and faculty. Leading the band with their twirling batons and at the same time keeping step with the music are the majorettes. That's the cry of the Boosters Club, an organized cheering group. Characterized by their green and gold beanies, they attend all football and basketball games giving out school spirit. At graduation the club gives medals to the boys who have been outstanding in athletics. Glee Club When assemblies call for musical entertainment, the Girls' Glee Club is always ready to oblige. The Mixed Chorus always adds a musical atmosphere to assemblies. Whether it is a citizenship program or a gay singout, the boys and girls of the Mixed Chorus can be counted on to do their best. Mixed Chorus Stage Crafters No assembly or play would be possible without the stagecrafters. Headed by Mr. Emanuel Gebauer this group’s duties are many. They include keeping tab of all props, making stage sets, giving the actors proper lighting for plays, and setting up the risers for graduation ceremonies. Selling tickets for the noon movies and handling and distributing streetcar passes are some of their many important projects. They also operate the movie projector. Dispensary Helpers Two helpers are assigned each period to assist the nurse or doctor in the dispensary.
