They have done this with flying colors, 'lCoral and Black. The Zenithians have been ably represented in all activities such as: track, football, baseball, gymnastics, basketball, and tennis. They have also been represented by successful musical groups. Their final contribution to Fremont was their senior show. This musical was entitled llCorky and Tess and ran to a capacity crowd for two nights. On June l5, l956, the Zenithians said their last farewell to Fremont when they walked to the stage to receive their diploma. Now they will go out into the world and carry with them the memories of their last three years spent at l'Ye Olde Brick Pile. MUSIC The opportunities for a musical education at Fremont are varied. Our music department consists of three choral groups, two instrumental organizations and a club for musical appreciation. A-Cappella, which is considered the senior choir is headed by Mr. Wood. Some singing experience is necessary before you can enter the choir. Many students get this experience by ioining the Choraliers or Lyric Club. Choraliers, also lead by Mr. Wood, meet fifth period and often combine with the A-Cappella for such events as Open House and Christmas programs. The Lyric Club is an all girl group that sing under the direction of Miss Storrs. Some of the outside events attended by our choir this year were: Spotllight on Youth, KTTV, and the Franklin Music Festival. Also they made a recording of patriotic songs for KFI which was rebroadcasted the Sunday before Memorial Day, and submitted for a National Freedoms Foundation Award. For persons who can play instruments we have Band and Orchestra. Band meets fourth period and plays for Drill Team during football season, and provides music for sports events. The Orchestra offers an opportunity for musicians of a more serious nature, and entertains at Aud. calls. Both Band and Orchestra are under the able direction of Mr. Lucas. Finally for you who neither play an instru- ment or sing, the Jazz Club has been organized. The students meet after school once a week and listen to records. Mr. Reynolds is the club sponsor. DRILL TEAM Fremont's Drill Team, founded in T938 by Mrs. Genevieve Wiede and Mrs. Frances Miller, has been and still is the most outstanding in the city. Through the years it has been unequaled both in performance and in the large number of girls who try to qualify for this top organization. The one hundred and sixty girls who finally make the grade are chosen for their scholastic ability, citizenship, perserverance, and appearance. During football season the team works out at least one hour a clay to the familiar sound of Mrs. Wiede's drumming, and Miss Carolyn Mitchell's, 'iLeftl Right! . . . Left! Right! The uniform consists ot a gray dress, red vest, sox and beany. White shoes and red pom-poms com- plete the ensemble. Upon graduating from the team, the girls receive a certificate of membership and also get to keep their beanies as souvenirs. On the preceding and following pages are some of the snappy formations formed by the Drill Team during half time at football games and special Mothers' Review. There are banquets, parties, rallies, and several play days tor which Fremont G.A.A. members are responsible. Beside these activities, our girls are in- vited to go to other schools for all day out- ings. Their aim is to build better minds and bodies. These are indeed busy young ladies!!
