'S' X Group Two Rear Admiral E. j. Carroll, fr., was born 2 December 1923 in hliami, Arizona. Ile graduated from Bell High Schggl, Bell, California, and attended CALTECII prior to entering the Navy as an .flviation Cadet on 20 july 1943 at Los Angeles, California. Following completion of flight training, he was designated a Naval .flviator and commissioned as an Ensign in the U. S. Naval Reserve on I .-lpril 1945. Ile was appointed to a regular commission in the U. S. Navy in 1947 and has served in a wide variety of operational assignments since that time. Highlights include two tours of combat duty in the Korean Campaign as a pilot in an. .V-1-I SKYRAIDER Squadron, flying from the aircraft carriers USS BOXER, USS lf'.4I,LEY FORGE and the USS PHILIPPINE SEA. He has also served as Navigator of the Flagship of the Commander :Uiddle East Task Force, Maintenance Officer offlttaclc Squadron 176 and as Operations Officer and Executive Officer of the aircraft carrier, USS KITTY H.r1WK, His auiatign commands were both A-'I SKYIIAWK Squadrons, let flttaclf Squadrons 36 and 113. During the Vietnam Campaign he commanded the USS OCIJEN KLPD-51 which engaged in a series of amphibious assault operations in Vietnam. Subsequently he became the Commanding Officer of USS .11IlJW.il Y fCV.'1-112, once again returning to Vietnam waters for combat operations there. Upon completion of two years aboard USS ,1llIIllN:IY, Hear Admiral Carroll was assigned as Deputy Chiefo c , I Staff for Operations and Plans on the Staff of Commander in Chief, U. S. Naval Forces Europe, in London, England During this tour of duty he was selected for and appointed to the ranlf of Rear fldmiral, U. S. Navy on I November 1972. Captain lack C. Presley, USN 1 Commander Carrier Air Wu One Captain Presley, a native of Peru, Nebraska, attended school in Yakima, llashington. Entering the Navy as a Naval Aviation Cadet in March 1955, he received his wings and commission as an Ensign in August 1956 and was assigned to Fighter Squadron Fifty-Two flying F211-3 Banshees aboard USS BENNINCTON and USS TICONDEROCA . In March 1959, Captain Presley was assigned to Fighter Squadron One Hundred Twenty One as an instrument instructor in the F9F-8T aircraft. Following a two-year tour at the U. S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree, he was assigned to Attach Squadron Sixty-four flying A-4 Skyhawlfs from the USS ENTERPRISE and USS AMERICA. His next assignment was as Assistant Air Operations Officer on Seventh Fleet Staff Det Charlief, ln 1966, Captain Presley reported to the Naval Air Test Center, Patuxent River, Maryland. After completing test pilot training, he served as a project pilot at Flight Test and then returned to the U. S. Naval Test Pilot School in 1968 as an instructor. ln1969, he became the first exchange tutor on the staff of the British Empire Test Pilot School. He transitioned to the A-6 intruder at Whidbey lsland,ll'ashington while attached to Attack Squadron One Hundred Twenty Eight. He reported to Attack Squadron One,Hundred Fifteen as Executive,Officer in ,luly 1, 72 aboard the USS JIIDWAY and assumed Command of the squadron on 6 fuly 1973. Captain Presley served as Assistant Project Manager for A-6 aircraft at the Naval Air Systems Command from july 197-I to December 1975. On 20 August 1976, Captain Presley assumed command of Carrier Air Wing One aboard USS JOHN F. KENNEDY. Captain Presley was promoted to his present rank on April 18, 1977. Captain. Presley holds the following awards and medals: two Distinguished Flying Crosses, the Bronze Star Medal, four Air Medals, nine fStrihe Fliglzitj Air lledals, two Navy Commendation Jledals, and numerous unit and campaign awards. He has accumulated over -1300 hours in 55 types of aircraft. Captain Presley is married to the former llilda ,lo-An Schneider of Yakima, Washington and currently resides in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Ile assumed command ofthe USS .f1RNlfB lLKA-56j in October 1969 and from january to june 1971 served as a Member, Staff Commander Naval Air Force, U. S. fltlantic Fleet. Ile next commanded the USS 1'ORRIi'S7'f1l, KCV.-1-592 from .Uay 1970 to .Vovember197'7 Ile reported in November 1972 as Assistant Director for Captain Detail ffiviationj, Bureau of Naval Personnel. ln December 1973 he became Deputy Director of the National ,Uilitary Command Center, j-3, joint Chiefs of Staff. ln Jlarch 1975, Rear Admiral Schoult: was ordered as Vice Director for Operations, j-3, joint Chiefs of Staff until he detached to attend th.e Senior Officers Ship ,Uaterial ,Uanagernent course enroute to Commander Carrier Croup TWO. llis awards include the Legion of llerit.
