The S-3A has an all-weather capability to search for, localize and destroy enemy submarines and contains an advanced avionics system designed spe- cifically to keep pace vvith the increased capabilities of nuclear-povvered submarines. The S-3A is designed to carry an arraV Of ordnance, including homing torpedoes, mines, delllli charges, rockets and missiles. lt carries twice the sonobouy load of the S-2 and has a general DUVDO59 digital computer capable of analyzing and displaylntl undervvater sounds and other data on television-like displays for interpretation. The Viking's foremost task is to protect the high value target - the aircraft carrier itself. Its avioniCS system is the most extensive, multi-mode, sol3lll5ll' cated application of electronic sensor, and software technology in any tactical aircraft. The overall system is capable of rapid and reliable secure communication vvith other ASW units through data link.

Built by Grumman Aerospace Corporation the TOMCAT represents the latcst technology in the field of aerial combat. With a maximum speed in excess of lvlach 2.0 and a combat ceiling of over 50 000 feet the F-14 is capable of defeating even its most formidable opponents.
