Lockheed Aircraft Corporation made it's home here. They fare Burbank's largest employer. Their 25,000 employees work in large plants occupying over 2,000 acres of land. Lockheed is well known for a variety of commerical and military aircraft. We here at Burrough appreciate all the useful equipment Lockheed has donated to us throughout the years. The many job opportunities and many programs for students interested in the many vocations Lockheed have to offer. Burbank is fortunate to have Lockheed as a neighbor. They played for people at convalesant homes on their time, they thought of others instead of themselves. There was also Dominique Brabec our Foreign Exchange student. Important matters are usually more effectively dealt with when respon- sible people are in charge. The John Burroughs fall officers are very re- sponsible people and led by President Eliud Garcia, they dealt with several important matters throughout the year. All officers of the student body government are members of the Ex- ecutive Cabinet which meets every day fourth period in the Student Body office. The adviser to the Ex- ecutive Cabinet is Mr. Crawford. One of the biggest and most im- portant function of the Executive Cabinet is the reviewing the budgets of the many student body organi- zations. It surely takes dedicated people to perform the responsibil- ities ofthe student body officers. Student government f , iJ.!, BETH CUMMINS, A.S.B. During the fall semester several of these goals were fulfilled. Now with the Spring semester underway the cabinet is working hard to keep everyone on campus happy. Among the problems being taken care of are: bike racks put inside the cam- pus, only registered vehicles allowed to park in student parking lot, ecology on campus and a possibility of a smoking lounge. Our A.S.B. officers have also formed a special fund for our Mural in which extra money, on interest will also accumulate. Our three majorettes and eight flag twirlers spent many out of school hours perfecting the colorful routines witnessed by the student body. Smiling brightly are: PAULETTE SLATER, SUE MOORBERG and MARILYN OZUROVICH, the co-captains ofthe 1972 Injunettes. In each of us exists the desire to achieve. One of the hardest working groups at John Burroughs is the Injunettes. Achievement is only one of their goals, because satisfaction and gratification are also included. These girls devote many long hours to the group. The responsibilities and strict regulations of the group definitely prove that this is one of the outstanding female organizations on campus. The If music does indeed soothe the hearts of the savage beast then we at John Burroughs must be the tamest students in all the land. We have three instrumental groups that are in the business of quieting the beat of savage hearts. These are the John Burroughs Red- skin Band, the Orchestra and the Dance Band. All three groups are very active around the campus. The Redskin Band provides us with concerts, and music and color at football games, and spreads our name throughout Southern California by marching in various parades. The Orchestra participates in assem- blies and the very popular festival of music held every year. The Dance Band plays for assem- blies and various dances throughout the year. This past school year of 1971-1972 has meant many different things to many different people. Whatever the mood of any situation, we, the AKELA staff, have tried to capture these moments, in order to have them remembered and relived as long as there exists an AKELA. Re-capturing these moments requires many good pictures. So, for the fine selection they have given to us, we convey our greatest gratitude to Mr. Miller and his photography class for taking their time in helping us prepare AKELA. Proofreading is an essential part of an annual. Since AKELA is the resurrection of school days at Burroughs, we want it to come to you as nearly perfect as possible, For catching and correcting our mistakes in the copy, our heartfelt thanks go to Miss Leonard and Mr. Rose. The hours of their time that they voluntarily gave for our benefit are greatly appreciated. Last, but certainly not least, we acknowledge Mr. Conley Mc Laughlin. For his hours of planning, work, and un- deserved patience toward us, we give not only the inadequate words of thanks, but our love. Without Mr. Mac, AKELA would not be. Finally, we thank each other for the all-around congeniality of the group in working together to present to you our book of memories, AKELA, 1972. A 3 ' . wr T.
