learn enjoys drowning opponents Showing great promise, the B Team gets ready to drown their op- ponents. In his first year at Burroughs, coach DAVE HERMANS is shak- ing hands with his exceptional Captain, DA NA LA RSEN. Those who feel that water polo is an easy sport to play are in for a shock. Water polo, along with being a rough game, is a tireing game also. Our team has not won every game, but has played hard in every one of them. We can conceit that we beat the dogs from Bur- bank High twice, for the city title. The leaders of the team are Captain DANA LARSEN, GLENN DIETZ, CRAIG WOOD, AND GARY STOLARK. We have an exceptional goalie in DWAYNE ROM- BERGER. The bee,s are led by JIM AVILA who is good enough to play varsity but not quite big enough. CURT SHEPHERD leads the Cee's. The Cee team doesnlt have too many members but have shown power in the water. Our first win against the dogs was marred by fouls. The team played great and won in overtime by a score of 12-10. DANA LARSEN, and GLENN DIETZ stared in that game. The next time they met was the hardest fought game this year for both teams. There was no individual stars in that game, but it was an all out team win. We won by a score of 7-5. Our team proved this year that winners aren't quiters, quiters aren't winners, our team is a bunch of winners. With only seven members, the C Team fights for their lives to win.

V A Q V Alter an agonizing battle, Chris Andrus crosses the finish line. This years Cross County Team has shown the potential to be the best team we have ever had at John Burroughs. The harriers are led to the hills by possible all Foothill League runner BILL BUSS. Bill shattered the existing school record of 9:38.0 by 4 seconds with the time of 9:34.0. Varsity retuming Lettermen are STEVE TAY- REIN, 'CHRIS ANDRUS, MARK RO- MAN. Leading the J.V. are JERRY EVERHART, MITCH BENNENT, RANDY KENNEDY, and MIKE FRO- LICH. Some fine sophomore prospects are RIC OSLUND who usually runs Var- sity, RICHARD THEODORE, GILBERT VENEGAS and GARY FIGUEROAQ. The team has worked hard all summer and should finish high in the league. During practice the team runs and runs. They work out in the Griffith Park Hills, in the smog. They run up to the Observatory and mix with the heavens, and stars. This years team should represent our school well, if they donlt get all wrapped up in poison oak.
