The seniors who merit the greatest praise in the field of instrumental music are Bill Bums and Andy Gor- don. Bill, who has been active in every phase ot instrumental music at Burroughs from dance band to orchestra, is also active in extra- curricular musical activities such as the Burbank Police Boys' Band. Andy has contributed much oi his time to band and orchestra, and served this year as president ot the dance band. Andy has also served as vice-president of Boys' Council and president of Senior Class. This may look like a row, but it's really iust Sharon Moore and Danny Richards rehearsing a scene from the Senior Play, which they helped make such a tremendous success. These two versatile people could do comedy or tragedy with equal ease and their portrayals added much appeal to many drama productions at Burroughs. fs 1, 5 5 5,941 Dance awards seemed to come easy to such talented and enthusiastic dancers as Leslie Weiner and Caro- lyn Fitzpatrick. Both of these girls captured lead roles in the annual dance performance. Their contribu- tions of time and talent helped to make the performance a smashing success. qv- loan Freeman. Lynne Kenworthy. and Harold Daugherty, are three oi the most talented performers at Bur- roughs. Lynne. who is also a very line dancer. is especially known lor her excellent acting ability. She walked oft with top acting honors at the Foothill League Drama Festi- val. Ioan has been active in almost every phase of entertainment at Burroughs. She has contributed her acting, singing, and dancing talents to many performances, including last year's operetta Annie Get Your Gun . Ioan was one of our swing- in' songleaders this year. too. Harold deserves much credit for his exceptional ability in the fields of instrumental music and singing. He has taken part in such musical ac- tivities as the IBHS quartet, the operetta. and senior choir.

Pete Hillman and Tom Tintorri were unanimous choices as outstanding athletes of 1959. Pete was a mem- ber of the All-League Basketball team two years running, while Tom was selected as an All-League foot- baller. Both boys earned starting berths on our fine baseball team, too. Carmen Gomez is active in al- most every phase of girls' sports. Having been GAA president, vice president, and treasurer and a mem- ber of Lettergirls for the last two years, she is well known for her sportsmanship as well as for her fine playing. Carmen's friendliness and humor have endeared her to many students at Burroughs. Bill Christopher, feature editor of the Smoke Signal. kept everybody up to date on the latest Burroughs events. Sheron Rehwald served as Editor of the Smoke Signal this year. Her new innovations and controver- sial editorials added greatly to the merit of the paper. Noel Iohnson. hard-working editor-in-chief of the Akela. also found time to take part in athletics and school activities. He served as Senior Class president during the fall semester and was a member of our championship B Football team. Micky McGarvey, Carol Pease and Mary Berry have held many impor- tant offices in student government during their years at Burroughs. The interest of the school as a whole has always been uppermost in their minds and they have devoted their time and energy to fulfilling the re- sponsibilities of their offices. Mary has served her school as Iunior Class secretary, ASB recorder, and Senior Class secretary. Carol was elected as ASB secretary for two terms. Mickey has held the offices of ASB recorder and ASB president. A1 Vacio and Steve McKenzie were two of the finest B athletes we've had at Burroughs in quite a few years. Both were members of the '58 Championship Football team. Be- sides being fine athletes, both boys took part in other school activities. Steve served as Boys' Council presi- dent lor a semester. while Al head- ed our Lettermen's Club this year.

In this field. promptness. efficiency, and a sense of responsibility are mandatory. These girls have been very successful in ful- filling these requirements. T Efficient and neat would certainly de- scribe Merrilee West and Sandra Ma- lan. our two outstanding seniors in the field of home economics. Because of their interest in new ideas and their flair for fashion, homemaking will al- ways be a pleasure for them and not lust a duty. X C1 . staff? They both are now attend- ing weekend classes on scholarships at two of the most famous art schools in this area. Sandra is at Chouinard and Carol is at Art Cen- ter. Carol's good nature was often taxed with requests for posters, ban- ners, and program covers for school events. She unselfishly turned these out at an amazing rate. Larry Clark and Art Berchin special- ize in different fields. Larry is an expert mechanic and knows iust about everything there is to know about automobiles. He not only can repair cars. but is able to design parts for them.
