Mrs. Libby Shearer has been chosen by the students of lohn Burroughs as teacher of the year. She attended Central Mis- souri Teachers College, gradu- ating with a BA degree. She completed her post graduate work at Kansas City University, where she received her Masters Degree. Mrs. Shearer taught school in Kansas for the next eighteen years-in the cities of Independence, Kansas City and Peculiar. fSpeaking of Pecu- liar -her favorite hobby is horse racing. She attended the 75th running of the Kentucky Derby in Louisville in 1950.7 While working for the Fed- eral Government fshe began in l944J she was transferred to the West Coast in 1954. After living on the West Coast for awhile, Mrs. Shearer decided to quit and resume her teaching ca- reer. She began teaching at IB in l954. She teaches Sophomore English and our Special Train- ing classes. She is the advisor of the all-important Pep Council and there is hardly a school sports event at which she can- not be found. Mr. Flora has earned the respect and admiration of all, and his math classes are usually full to the point of overflowing. Mr. Flora began teaching at Bur- roughs in l949. Before entering the teaching profession Mr. Flora attended the University of Redlands. While at Redlands he became well-known as an athlete, being named on the All-League Basketball and Baseball teams. This athletic influence has followed him to our campus. Up until this year he was Varsity basketball coach: this year he takes over as Varsity baseball mentor. He is never too busy for a friendly conversation or too tired to give a wor- ried student a helpful bit of advice, whether it concerns educational or per- sonal problerns. Mr. Flora is the stu- dent's idea of a first-rate teacher.

ig SENIORS The Hunters of prehistoric times possessed Herculean strength. ln fact, they were so strong that they were able to kill the dangerous Diplo- das with only one blow from the tusk of a slimy Stynacosares. The Hunters were also very intelligent. Why battle with a sassy Saltoposuclius when a little salt on the monster's tail would serve the pur- pose just as well? they reasoned, Because of their extreme bravery and wisdom, they were acknowledged by all as the leaders. Qur Seniors at Iohn Burroughs have inherited most of the Hunters' praiseworthy virtues. Dur- ing school hours they bravely face their classes with only their books as weapons. Nightly they tackle difficult homework assignments and often they wrestle with enormous exams.
