Following this and the opening ot school, the Band marched tor nine out ot ten football games including the championship game at Hammond. With the ending ot the football season, the Band graduated to indoor practices and played tor basketball games. They also played at all pep assemblies with the aid ot the pep band stationed at the tour corners. On -completing basketball obligations, the members ot the Band began working frantically on the solo and ensemble contest at LaPorte and the state contest at Indianapolis. Faring quite well in these S two contests, the Band began preparing tor the Band contest, and concluded their season with the annual school concert. The Orchestra, under the direction of Mr. Ronald Walton, started the season by participating in the music program for the North Central Teachers' Association. From beginning to end, the year held a full schedule of events. The members participated in school concerts, assemblies, and plays during the year. ln what free time they had, they prepared for solo and ensemble contests. The Orchestra gave concerts at various iunior high and grade schools of South Bend. The annual Band and Orchestra contest, in which the Orchestra members also played, was held in Griffith this year. Junior Walton The Junior Waltons is made up of John Adams students who are sincerely interested in wildlife or the outdoors. The purpose of the club is to safely defend the forests, waters, wildlife, soil, and minerals as the Conservation Pledge of the club states. The Senior Walton League has aided the Adams Junior Waltons by giving land to them for conservation projects. The Senior Walton League was the scene for the annual Walton dance held in the spring. B. The members of the club give up study halls during the week in order to render service to the students and the school. The John Adams Council of the St. Joseph County Chapter of the American Junior Red Cross again planned and carried out the annual Tuberculosis Seal Sale Drive which was quite successful. ln February, favors were made through the Art Department for Veterans' Adminis- tration Hospitals. The spring months were busy with the organization and carrying out plans of the inter- city council and the filling of gift boxes for Hungarian Relief. Students who have earned the honor ot membership through acting and production work are inducted in the semi- annual tormal initiation. Meetings are held monthly in a member's home. The purpose ot the club is to give high school girls a wide picture ot the nursing profession and an insight into the nursing work. This was done by entertaining guest speakers from the field ot medicine and nursing at various club meetings throughout the year. The Future Nurses accompanied other high school clubs on visits to area hospitals and other places of medical interest. The club also worked for the Cancer Society during the year. The members strive to create, maintain, and extend throughout the home, school, and com- munity, high standards ot Christian character. The platform is clean living, clean speech, clean scholarship, and clean sportsmanship. The Hi-Y has been a very busy club this past year. The club sponsored Adams Eve, the Coronation Ball, Parents Night, and Freshman and Guest Night. The club also gave baskets to needy families at Christmas time, escorted the basketball queen's court, presented the Easter assembly, and helped the Junior Red Cross sell Christmas Seals with the mailbox delivery project. . The Y-Teens is a service organization which works closely with the Y.W.C.A. Its purpose is to build a better fellowship ot women and girls, devoted to the task of realizing the ideals ot personal and social living, to which we are committed by our faith as Christians. ln this way the club seeks to understand Jesus, to share His love for all people, and to grow in knowledge and love ot God. Each year at Easter and Christmas, the Y-Teens aid children and adults in hospitals and orphanages. The club holds an annual picnic and o Mother and Daughter Banquet. ' Monogram Club The purpose of the Monogram Club is to promote and preserve the wholesome athletic traditions of the school and by doing this to aid in creating better sportsmanship and school spirit. Being of an athletic nature, the Monogram Club strives to recognize the dignity of the worthwhile accomplishments of any athlete in whatever sport he is a participant. This year's club sponsored all the awards assemblies and presented most valuable player awards to the out- standing member of the football, basketball, base- ball, and track teams. I The John Adams Booster Club strives to promote pride and enthusiasm in all athletic activities and to help the students become a more unified student body. The Booster Club, under the leadership of a sponsor, officers, and board has experienced a very successful year with a variety of activities. Members of the club typed ticket applications, dec- orated goal posts, provided pre-game stunts, secured bus service to out-of-town games, held pep rallies and dances, conducted Football, Tennis, and Cross Country clinics, sponsored the Football queen coron- ation, and many other activities related to the school's athletic program.
