The 1920 graduating class of Scott High School embraced many individuals who have risen to positions of prominence and influence. Among the graduates was a young woman who loved her school dearly. Six years later, she returned, pre- pared to teach other generations a love of school, history, and life. Her name: Minnie Gould. The experience of learning under Miss Gould is one that students retain fondly in their mem- ories. Scott alumni from five decades of this century remember and ask about Miss Gould whenever they visit their alma mater. Seniors re- call Miss Gould as a sociology teacher, but few realize that she was largely responsible for de- veloping the course in sociology taught in Toledo Schools. A small woman with her hair swept back in a bun, wearing a plain dress, her features un- adorned-by cosmetics or iewelry, speaking with a penetrating voice in plain, direct language- such is the physical impression that Minnie Gould leaves. More important is the impression made on many thousands of young men and women who have studied with her since 1926. Miss Gould has been described as a cracker-lack teacher. She has the knack of working with people, she has the rare ability to get through to students on a personal basis, to understand student mo- tives, and to give deep sympathy and counseling to those with problems. Her warm personality as well as use of good common sense has had an enormous influence on students for the best. The value of her influence cannot be measured. We can only praise her work and honor a truly remarkable teacher. . . . o Distinguished Teaching Miss Minnie Gould -teacher and friend Miss Gould makes good use of her 42 years of teaching experience to present interesting and informative classroom discussions.
