We at Scott have learned that our differences, when respected by all of us, can lead to strength and even unity. We are living lite as lite has to be lived today, as it is going to be lived tomorrow --together

ft3 5f?5h.si On September 13, 1957, Principal R. J. Langstaff replaced the usual morning public-address announcements with a personal talk to the students. The occasion was one of discouragem ent, restlessness, and tension within the school. During this twenty-minute talk' throughout the building there was complete silence - the silence of 1600 students as they listened to principal declare his faith in them and their school. The result was that on that night the football team played its first game of the season, supported by one of the year's most spirited, loudly-cheering crowds, their such and won 42-0. Mr. Langstaff's faith was emphasized again when Janet Quinn be- came the first Negro girl to reign as Scott's Thanksgiving Day queen. These two incidents gave us greater pride in our school than we had ever had before, and resulted in proof that our differences can constitute our strength 'For a reprint of Mr. Langstafs entire speech as it was given on that morning, see page 1 25. We bear the same relationship to the same God. ,
