K l A A home improvement crew consisting of Scott football coaches Mr. Everett Dean, Mr. Richard Knisely, and Mr. Robert Car- son painted houses, Mr. William Fetters delivered Sealtest milk to his customers as he has done for the past six years. ln the bus-man's holiday tradition, the Messieurs Cuthbert Ryan and Andrew Kan- dik headed the art and baseball divisions of the City Recreation Department, and Miss Florence Petersen spent her vacation as a counselor at the Silver Acre Day Camp at Traverse City, Michigan. Miss Vera Baymiller taught solid geometry and trigonometry here at Scott. lt is reported that her class learned the difference be- tween a cube and a sphere despite the early hours. Among our faculty globe-trotters was Mrs. John Smith, who traveled in Europe, touring France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Germany, Denmark, Holland, England, and Scotland. Other summer travelers were Miss Vilma Rottenstein and Miss Geraldine Leitner, who journeyed by air through Central and South America. September found our faculty rested and ready to begin a new school year. Taking double teaching duties in both day school and night school at Scott were Mr. James Bradford, Mrs. Ruth Eller, Mr. Cloyce Chey- ney, Mr. James Hill, Mr. Robert McCollum, Miss Nancy Young, and Mr. Richard Knise- ly, and Mr. R. S. Weiser, night school prin- cipal. On December 5, the Scott faculty was host to visiting teachers from twenty-three lands who had come to Scott to observe American teaching methods. Among the Scott teachers who were present at several of the dinners given that night were Miss Margaret Schaff, Miss Florence Petersen, Mr. Ralph Merickel, and Miss Mary Butler at Miss Mary Butler's home. At Miss Fields' home were nine members of the English department, Mrs. lnez Boyd, Mrs. Laura Caldwell, Mrs. Kathleen Conwell, Mr. James Eppstein, Miss Olive Bingham, Mrs. Ruth Eller, Miss Geraldine Leitner, and Miss Theresa Malloy. Another dinner held that night was the one given at the Eastmins- ter Presbyterian Church. Miss Vera Bay- miller was the chairman. There were twen- ty-six guests present, including seven foreign teachers. A highlight of the dinner was the showing of slides depicting life in these United States. The next morning the visitors left. They had accomplished their goal. They had learned about the American school. But they had done more for us, they brought us a little closer to the world.
