.1 n Foreword In his poem The Chambered Nautilus Oliver Wendell Holmes expresses in a beautiful and symbolic language an ideal of unlimited growth. We have tried in this I955 Scollonian to present the story of a student's growth during his four years of high school as it par- allels the gradual rise of a building constructed from the master's blueprint. Such a blueprint underlies the growth in our school plant which has been a significant event of the school year this volume records. As the architect supervises the progress of the building to insure the faithful execution of the plans or to make advantageous changes as the need develops, so the administrative staff and faculty of the school guide and direct the student's progress to see that it does not deviate too far from his charted course and to help him adapt his program to his individual talents and needs. Finally the senior, like the completed building, reaches maturity. Turning over to underclassmen the responsibility of maintaining traditions, he hopefully faces the needs of his community as a constructive adult or builds a higher educational structure. In either case he must, like Holmes' Hchambered Nautilus, build more stately man- sions . . . as the swift season's roll.
