THE JESUIT HIGH Basketball team, which compiled an admirable record during the 'I959-60 season under the tutor- ship of Mr. Dadey and Mr. Kenny, S.J., fkneelingl includes: Vern Meinz, Ray DeMartini, Bernie Albers, Bill Wehrly, Pat Conroy, Chuck Concannon, Tim Gearin, Bruce Moore, Dick Gedrose, John Davis, Chuck Boehmer, Bill Hamilton, and Ron Martell, manager. VARSITY BASKETBALL Coach Dadey's green and gold clad basketeers, in spite of a discouraging 2-6 pre-season record, came on fast in Wilco League competition and finished in second place, thus capturing a berth in the State A-l Basketball Tournament. lt was the first time in the history of Oregon State Basketball that a school with its first senior class has won a State Tourney berth. At the close of the season, Coach Dadey was chosen as Catholic High School Coach of the Year in Oregon, Seniors Bernie Albers and Bill Wehrly were chosen on the 'lst string All-State Catholic Basketball Team, and Senior Ray De- Martini and Junior Tim Gearin received Honorable Mentions on the same team. Albers also was an unanimous choice on the Wilco League All-Star first team and received Honorable Mention on the All-State Basketball Team. Wehrly was picked on the second team in the Wilco League. The Crusaders finished the Wilco League with a lo-4 record, and entered the State Tournament in Eugene with a 'l2-l0 season record. Jesuit six Jssurr STALWARTS about coach nadey ure. These were the words of the Frosh football coach Mr. Michael Shultheis, S.J., at the com- pletion ofthe '59 season. Mr. Shultheis had good reason to be optimis- tic, for his young Jesuit fledgings had iust nipped Parkrose Heights 'IQ-7 and finished the season with ci perfect 5-0 record. Led by a fine pair of halfbacks, Mike Ford and Pat Casey, the Frosh scored in double figures in all of the five games, took the Freshmen Wilco League championship, scored a total of 94 points 118.8 per gamei, and limited the opposition to a total of 38 points f7.6 per gamel. But, as is true of any title-winning team, a strong line is necessary, and a strong line the Frosh did have: ends were Ebert, White, and Becker, tackles were Zilka, Ford, und Johnson, guards were Dolan and Paquet, centers were McDowell and Brenneke. THE FINE offensive play of the Jesuit Frosh is exemplified in this ten yard scoring burst by Pat Casey in the first quarter against Reynolds, pacing a 31-12 victory. With a record like the Frosh compiled this year, the football future at Jesuit High is indeed very bright. 56 I
