These were the words of the Frosh football coach Mr. Michael Shultheis, S.J., at the com- pletion ofthe '59 season. Mr. Shultheis had good reason to be optimis- tic, for his young Jesuit fledgings had iust nipped Parkrose Heights 'IQ-7 and finished the season with ci perfect 5-0 record. Led by a fine pair of halfbacks, Mike Ford and Pat Casey, the Frosh scored in double figures in all of the five games, took the Freshmen Wilco League championship, scored a total of 94 points 118.8 per gamei, and limited the opposition to a total of 38 points f7.6 per gamel. But, as is true of any title-winning team, a strong line is necessary, and a strong line the Frosh did have: ends were Ebert, White, and Becker, tackles were Zilka, Ford, und Johnson, guards were Dolan and Paquet, centers were McDowell and Brenneke. THE FINE offensive play of the Jesuit Frosh is exemplified in this ten yard scoring burst by Pat Casey in the first quarter against Reynolds, pacing a 31-12 victory. With a record like the Frosh compiled this year, the football future at Jesuit High is indeed very bright. 56 I

T was a banner season for the Jesuit High iunior varsity football team, which, under the tutorship of coach Allen, emerged with the i959 WILCO LEAGUE JV crown as well as a 6 win l tie record. After having been momentarily slowed by a 13-13 deadlock with North Catholic in their season opener, the junior Crusaders went on to make shambles of the WILCO LEAGUE JV teams. Throughout their seven game season, the Crusaders were sparked by the yeoman line play of their center, Thompson, three fine guards, Owens, Stoffel, and Malenski, and tackles Carty and Ander- son. Their fine passing game was .centered around ends Claridge, Marks, Nyssan',gand Murowski. In the backfield, quarterback Don Oderman led a bevy of potent runners l in fullback Dooley and halfbacks McLean and Carr.
