l victomous DEBATERS Q Jesuit Hig-dh debaters reaped the re- wards of three? ybars of intensive speech training under their able coach, Mr. Donald Turnei, this spring. They began by taking segcond place in the sweep- stakes at Paicific University, enhanced their record with third place in the sweep- stakes at Linfield College. This was the first timefthat anon-coed school had succeeded inQamassing enough points to place. Finally, as a result of highly competitive ielimination contests, the club sent the largest delegation in the Portland area to the state tournament. There the ddbaters took first place in the B divisioh. In all, the orators won every oratoryi contest held in the state except one. total of ten scholarships to various colleges and universities in the Northwest were awarded to the Senior debaters. l i GLIB Ralph Jlphnson won first in extemp at Linfield arrd in debate at OSC. i DEBATERS Ed Benson and Charles Liebentritt look on apprehensively as Jerry Buckley makes his point. Mike Harrison stares in wonder. ACTIVITY is all mental as debaters Mike Riley, Jeff Boly, Leon Kunke, Tom Newlin pose. Boly and Newlin debated in the Gold Cup. OPPOSING DEBATERS Van Hutton and Roger Mackaness glare across the table at Dick Brenneke and Chris Minor, president of the club.
