Class of '88 Works Their Fair Share . . . Community Service is an important part of the educational program at Iesuit College Prep. This gives the Iesuit Senior many opportunities to serve the Iesuit and Dallas Communities. Although volunteer work - becoming a Man For Others - is a commitment for life. At Iesuit, the Seniors must serve one-hundred hours ir1 order to graduate. This year the Class of '88 has gone way over the predicted . . . 8: More! number of hours made by Mrs. Louise Lambeny, the Community Service Coordinator. Serving the sick, the needy, the handicapped, the uneducated, and those less fortunate than us provides unique opportunities for us. It is the primary step in the Iesuit tradition to serve others!!! fl' xl :.F 5? ,1',. 1 gg z- We.- ' ' ft ,-me-rg , nidwf-

W 'ff-K. iirl ,, 4 ,Q-gg... 'fw- fiisn- of v Seniors get it together in a Daze As Freshmen one constantly hears about the privileges Seniors receive. During the Sophomore and Iunior years these privileges are seen and envied. Those benefits spoken of include: any blazer color and material, the coveted Senior court yard, off-campus lunch, and Community Service Wednesdays. The most important privilege a Sen- ior is granted, Senior Community Days, involves maturity and a sense of brotherhood and commu- nity for fellow classmates. This three day adventure allowed a class full of spirit and energy to develop a Closer stronger bond to one another. The journey was not paved for everyone. No set path was ever given to the class. Rather, obstacles, such as theft mixed with a few failures, had to be cleared off the path and bad seeds were thrown to the side. There are several misconceptions about Community Days one may have before actually experiencing it. From the outside Community Days looks just like another re- treat. UNTRUE! Another false im- pression is that good friends be- come closer while the rest of the class, some whom one may not want to know, are left in the cold. Before experiencing Communi- ty Days, I believed these un- truths. The three days away from school routines and the hustle- bustle of everyday city life gives a person time to step back and to look at his present friendships, perceptions about himself and others, and how to make friend- ships better. These group discussions give classmates time to talk to those who normally would never be seen together. The stereotypes placed on everyone over the years vanished. No one was re- ally excluded. I felt I was finally able to open up to people whom I knew on the outside but knew nothing about their feelings and emotions on the inside. The community spirit did nc stop at the words. lt continu through all free time allotted the athletically inclined class. one was declined the opportuni to participate in his favorite at tivity. 'I'he Senior Class of 1988 to advantage of the three day eil penditure. We knew our faul' and tried to repair them. Friencn ships were examined, repairea and some given birth. The perso in everyone seemed to Chang' No longer were we doing go just for ourselves but for thoj who surrounded us. Without th experience many of us would st be the same people - some bo ing, others rude, and some wlr would not extend a helping hant It seemed that what took thr years to build was torn down ali rebuilt three times as strong 2 just three days. - Mike Zar
