UPPER: Mr Bynes gets a bird's-eye view. 24 MAINTENANCE Mr. Willie Bynes completed another year as HVJ’s head custodian with Ms. Washing- ton serving as his assistant. Keeping the classrooms in satisfactory condition, as well as keeping the grounds and school clean, were their main duties. Helping them with some of these jobs were Ms. Bryant, a full- time maid attached to Jenkins, and the part- time maids sent by the board of Education. All worked hard to keep HVJ in good run- ning condition.

A NEW SYSTEM COUNSELORS 23 ABOVE: All this paper work, ugh! LEFT: Ah. letmesee . UPPER: Always on the phone This past year Jenkins lost one counselor, but gained another. The new counselor, Mr. Mark Smith, took Mrs. Hollowell’s place. Before he came to Jenkins, he had been a counselor at Appling County High School in Baxley, Georgia, for six years. Mr. Smith served as the ninth and tenth grades counselor. Mrs. Virgina Preetorius was counselor for the eleventh and twelfth grades. This past year Mr. Fields worked with attendance and acted as counselor when the others were not available. Mrs. Patton served, again, as their competent secretary. The whole staff of the counselors’ office worked hard helping the students to adjust to the new semester system.

MUNCH TIME The cafeteria staff worked very efficently this past year, offering the students two separate lunch times. Splitting the lunches made the line run more smoothly and less- ened the crowds in the lunchroom. The school cafeteria offered three choices of meals: a hot meal, a bagged lunch, and a salad bar. Mrs. Kaigler was in charge of the cafeteria staff which worked diligently planning and preparing enjoyable, well-balanced meals for the students. CAFETERIA 25
