YOU HAVE TO LOVE KIDS Mrs. Barrett, the nurse at Jenkins, was with us again for the second year. The problems she faced daily were stomach aches, headaches, minor injuries, tendencies to goof-off and problems of ninth graders trying to adjust. Mrs. Barrett also conducted the vision, hearing, and blood pressure tests for students. Previously she had worked in a doctor’s office, but this was her fifth year as a school nurse. Mrs. Barrett said, “You have to love kids to do it.” Her philosopy was to be prepared for anything. Mrs. Barrett spent her leisure time with her hobbies: music and cooking. The satisfaction of reaching one or two students during the year made Mrs. Barrett feel her job was well done. UPPER: Mrs. Barrett bandages a hurt student. ABOVE: Mr. Crosby. OUR BIGGEST FANS Some of the biggest Warrior fans this year were the members of the Adult Booster Club. It was made up of people interested in supporting sports activities and encouraging the different teams to do their best. The main purpose of the club was to promote full cooperation among the club members, the coaches, the school officials and all students participating in sports. The Booster Club held several fund raising projects, including a barbecue dinner in the fall, monthly yard sales and bake sales. With these funds the club financed sports banquets in the fall, winter and spring, recognizing outstanding participants in each school sport. The club furnished trophies, plaques and other awards. When requested, they also provided assistance to the school. UPPER: “Andhow much will that cost? ABOVE: 1977-78 Adult Booster Club officers, (left to right): Rev. Bill Ford - President. HELPING TO PLAN OUR FUTURES The Counselors this year spent a lot of time working with students and helping them to make plans for their futures after graduation. The goal was to talk to each student at least once during the year. During these conferences students were informed of what courses were needed to meet graduation requirements. The counselors were also interested in helping students continue their educations through college or vocational school. Students were advised about selecting courses that would be necessary for admission to the college of their choice. College catalogues and applications were made available to students and throughout the year college representatives were on campus to talk to interested students. Mr. Harris was job placement counselor and he assisted students in finding and selecting jobs that would best suit them. UPPER: Mr. Harris works on fob applications. ABOVE: Mrs. Hollo well.
