A Constant Strive for Leadership and Supervision For the past few years H.V.J. has been for- tunate enough to have two very efficient as- sistant principals, each of which performed individual tasks vital to the regular routine of a day’s work around the school. Mr. James A. Taylor, one of our assistant principals, was involved in many of the activ- ities at H.V.J. He provided instructional lead- ership. supervised student affairs and spe- cial activities. Mr. Taylor helped in monitoring student attendance and he co-ordinated the teachers aide and substitute teachers pro- gram. Our other assistant principal was Mr. Wil- liam Gerken. Mr. Gerken supervised the work in the office to see that it was run at a smooth pace. His main concern, however, was the distribution of discipline with vigilance and justice.

This year the counseling staff here at Jenkins planned to let the whole student body know of the services available to them. With the cooperation of the teachers, they planned visits to individual class- rooms in hopes of talking to more students to find out their problems and needs. Un- der the supervision of Mr. Jack Fowler, head counselor, Mrs. Janet Argroves, Mrs. Melissa Miller, and the secretary, Mrs. Ter- rie Mehlhorn, Jenkins has produced one of the most efficient counseling staffs ever. 19
