NOW SET These words are welcome to all hands as the helos often bring supplies, visitors or, best of all mail. On one occasion a helo detail brought a great deal more excitement than anyone ex- pected. On July 6, T967 helo number 54 from the USS HELO DETAIL drop guard mail. ln a freak accident a rag was sucked into the helo's intake, and in a matter of seconds the engine died and the helo crashed into the waters of Manila Bay. Fortunately no one was seriously iniured and rescue operations were swiftly and successfully car- , ried out.
