All Phases of Home Are you able to bake a cake without using a mix? Can you read patterns well enough to make a suit or a dress? Do you realize the problems that can occur when there is a divorce? If your answers to these ques- tions are negative, then it is certain that you have not participated in the home economics classes at Jeff. Taught in these courses were clothing, family care and child development, family living, home manage- ment, and foods. The exception to the rule that only girls were allowed to take home economics was the family living course which boys could take. This course provided the pupils with a solid background for their future roles as marriage partners. Discussed in this course were the aspects of dating, the necessity of making a good marital choice, and the influence that children have in marriage. In this course viewpoints of both boys and girls were studied in solving problems. l'Trix with Mixes, Hlforeign Foodsf' uCooking for Two, and '4Cookie Timew were favorite units studied by the foods classesg pupils in the family care class enjoyed learning to take care of family members who do not feel well. THE CHOCOLATE PUDDING is finally finishedg Patty Baer checks recipe as Betty Pugh and Claudia Emmons pour the pudding. Mana ement Stresse IN THEIR THIRD HOUR home nursing class, Sally Davis and Sue Clifton, both seniors, show the proper method of making a bed. HAVING LEARNED about the different parts of a car, Steve Smith tests his knowledge on one of the cars in his auto shop class. SCRATCHING Hrs HEAD, Tom Barry looks with amazement at row on row of tools in machine shop, while in search of a wrench. Useful Skills Learned in Industrial lasses WORKING ON HIS ASSIGNMENT in fifth hour mechanical drawing class, Larry Haynes devotes his attention to a framing plan. The printing classes of the Jeff Manual Arts Depart- ment were the printers of the Booster, dance programs, identification cards, and school forms. The woodwork- ing' classes designed and made various ornaments which tested their creativity. Auto mechanics pupils learned to repair minor engine faults, and electronics pupils studied the structure of electrical circuits. The only course in the department offered to both boys and girls was mechanical drawing, which offered a three year program. The first year provided basic understanding of drafting techniques, the second year acquainted pupils with machine fundamentals, and the third year offered architectural drawing, which gave the pupils an understanding of buildings and building structures. Drafting, an important graphic language, is used by all people involved in production processes, not just by engineers, as many people think. Pupils in machine shop learned to operate basic mechanical tools. After analyzing difficult diagrams and using mathematics, they were able to manufacture tools such as hammers and vices. The operations learned in the machine shop classes enabled students to gain local employment more easily.

Som-romomas MARSHA METZGER and Pam Mofhtt demonstrate to the rest of their gym class the proper rope jumping techniques. IN THE LITTLE GYM Harriett Ware, Sharon White-aker, and Cindy Willey join the rest of the class in at co-ordination test. Physical Fitness Plan Taught in Jeff G m The Presidentls Council on Physical Fitness asked the youth and adults of this country to take an active interest in the fitness of its citizens. The physical edu- cation classes at Jeff fulfilled this request and provided enjoyable recreation as well as the necessary hard, challenging work, For many days the girls, physical education classes were seen running through the gym balcony clad in their bright blue gym suits. They were headed toward the Hlittle gym where they learned modern dance movements, tumbling, and table tennis. Other days found them on the gym bleachers engrossed in tests covering the rules and history of various sports. When the boys werenit occupying the main gym, the girls used it for basketball, volleyball, and badminton. During good weather, the boys' classes ran to the ,left football field where they played softball, football, and other vigorous outdoor sports. During the winter, while the girls occupied the Hlittle gym, the boys used the gym to improve their basketball skills. The boys, tiring calisthenics and the girls, posture- improving exercises, which caused many sore muscles, and the cold showers at the end of each class were bad memories for sophomore gym pupils.
