The printing classes of the Jeff Manual Arts Depart- ment were the printers of the Booster, dance programs, identification cards, and school forms. The woodwork- ing' classes designed and made various ornaments which tested their creativity. Auto mechanics pupils learned to repair minor engine faults, and electronics pupils studied the structure of electrical circuits. The only course in the department offered to both boys and girls was mechanical drawing, which offered a three year program. The first year provided basic understanding of drafting techniques, the second year acquainted pupils with machine fundamentals, and the third year offered architectural drawing, which gave the pupils an understanding of buildings and building structures. Drafting, an important graphic language, is used by all people involved in production processes, not just by engineers, as many people think. Pupils in machine shop learned to operate basic mechanical tools. After analyzing difficult diagrams and using mathematics, they were able to manufacture tools such as hammers and vices. The operations learned in the machine shop classes enabled students to gain local employment more easily.
