or Direction in Citizenship The faculty is indeed the key force behind the graduation of each senior class-ours is no excep- tion. It has been through their direct guidance that we have been able to leave our marks of accomplishment in our three years in high school, have made plans for our life in the years following commencement exercises, and have received the training necessary for those years. An added note we will remember will be the fellowship between us and our teachers at Jeffer- son. We think of them not only as the sources of our learning but also as some of our best friends. The faculty-student relationship at Jefferson is a particularly unique one. While still retaining BELQW: rllrf. llafh, Illrx, Ilforrifeit and lllr. Harker prcpare college mzlrzznfe formf the dignity that teachers are entitled to retain, our faculty members nevertheless take just as enthusiastic a part in school activities as do their teen-aged charges. Assemblies, rehearsals and athletic events al- ways find our instructors lending their support and giving us confidence to go on. That unmis- takable evidence of oneness that we feel seems to penetrate Jellps corridors and bring master and pupiln together. Citizenship on the other side of the fence certainly seems a desirable status if it may be judged by our high school relationships, Part of which we owe to our teachers. 4i15l5' I asa. ., . . . A . All roads lead to the Activities Office where the business arrangements for athletic, educational, and cultural events that take place in the high school are made. Classroom textbooks, lost and found articles, school supplies, and Senior dues are administered in this office. Keeping up with the many activities at Jefferson is no small feat, yet Mr. Fisher is always in control of the situation. +!l14fll' S VE Tor- Row: f. N. English In our English Department we become familiar with the great personages and writers of today and yesterday. Thus we grow in the knowledge of the old and new classics of literature. By learning to comprehend our na- tive language in its best form, we are able to reap the full rewards of rich self-expression. Here, Mrs. Dorsey and two students listen to the record player to an interpretation of Shakespeare by Maurice Evans. We Are Taught the iuu DUAKU tri? . ' Fine Arts Music, drama, and art com- pose our Fine Arts Department. The students are oliered the finer points in each lielcl. Our unaware minds are cultivated and tuned to an appreciation of good taste. VVe are taught through actual participation in plays, the choir and band, and in all the phases of art. Here, lVlr. Gridey instructs the choir accompanist during a rehearsal of a student production of Gil- bert and Sullivanis Operetta, H, M. S. Pinaforef' n tag.: m W n Foreign' Language Europe and America are more closely interwoven today than ever before. As the world shrinks, it becomes more and more im- perative to know a language other than one's native tongue, as well as Latin, the original parent of them all. The culture and habits of other lands are absorbed as our scopes are widened. Our interest in inter- national affairs increases. Here, hfladame Fallwell tells two stu- dents about an historic peace in France.
