LAYMAN MISS STALKER i I A -sl :sms .. new uu1uummmwwu1 l at Jefferson From the very beginning of this sehool year, the Student Government Association has been hard at work for the betterment of the sehool. To acquaint the new students with their teaehers and elass rooms as well as the offieers, objectives, and aetivities of the Student Government, an Orientation Program was held just before the opening of the fall session. The next event on the ealender was the annual eelebration of Old Grads' Day. Although many of the alumni were unable to eome home this year, there was a football game and a gala danee that night. Most sueeessful of all the eampaigns of the year was the eolleetion of ash trays and games for the men in the hospital at Camp Pickett. The goal of an ash tray from every student was realized as a result of the efforts of the entire student body. Many of the usual drives at the sehool were sponsored by both the Prefeet and Student Couneils and the sending of newspapers was eontinued to the jeffer- son students now serving in the armed forees. Among the new features has been the establishment of an information booth in the front hall for the purpose of assisting visitors to find their way about our sehool. A list of every person in the building as well as a map of the elass rooms is kept there. Another projeet has been Student Day, in which the sehool is run by students who take over the positions of the faeulty. To be ehosen to teaeh is eonsidered quite an honor. A drive for safety in and about the sehool elosed the list of this year's aehievements. HARRY Yfxrl-is Presiden! l 47 J The Library Club M,xR1N,x l'icR'i's. . , ,...,. The ehief projeet of the League is the publieation of a Latin-English newspaper, The Roanoke Roman. This year the paper has been devoted largely to showing how history is repeating itself on and around 'A Mare Nostrumf' in North Africa, Sieily and Italy. Plaee names familiar to Latin students, from their study of Latin and mythology, have mueh more interest when they appear in the news today.
