CLASS PROPHECY I was free .... The warden shook my hand. I was being released after ten years in the penitentiary for burning the chemistry laboratory at jefferson County High School. I decided to go out and see how my classmates had fared during this time. I was already familiar with jimmy Crumley, now a court reporter. I found him and together we went out to see some of our old classmates. As we went through town, I was amazed at some of the new buildings that had arisen since I had last seen Birmingham. I noticed especially a large department store, Kirkland 6: Fields, owned by john Bill Kirkland and Walter Fields. Stopping for a traffic light, we noticed john Shores, now the owner of a large bubble gum factory. He joined us, and while riding down to the main part of town, he had time to inform us that Ray Boyette is a lawyer. Much of his argu- ing ability, we are sure, came from his Senior II English class. William Harrell has developed a new explosive using radio-active nitroglycerin. Walterlene Can- non is campaigning to be the first woman President. Aileen Killian is seeking the vice-presidency. They hope to get on the Democratic ticket. Wendell Hawthorne is designing planes for V ultee Aircraft. Ethel Woodson is a drummer for Tommy Dorsey. As we rode along, john pointed out a large beauty salon owned by jack Bartlett, Dorothy Cowden, and Wyleen Elliott. We noticed a new photographic studio operated by Billy Don Tidmore, Leon Dutton, Richard Rodgers and Billy Deneke. We leamed that johnny Yates is an Ensign in the Navy. We stopped at Huggins and jacks' drugstore to get a bottle of Brewer's Root Tonici' and a Birmingham Post, now edited by Eugene McDaniel. We sat down and proceeded to catch up on the latest news. On the front page was the headline Scientists Find New Use For Atomic Power , which had been found by Orville Gamble, Doris Hewitt, and Gladys Higgins. New progress has been made in Psychiatry by Grace Abel. Mary Nell Aaron and Bobby Cobb are her assistants. james Burnett and Annie Ruth Sertelle are U. S. ambassadors to for- eign countries. That well-known quartet, the Funny Foursomen, including Cecil Higginbotham, Bobby Roper, Bobby Combs, and Milford Young, are now showing at the Birmingham. Reba English and Mary Sue Smith have just signed a contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Eunice Hathcock is taking a screen test there. Bobbie Mann has perfected a new surgical technique. johnnie Moore has replaced Oscar Wells in the First National Bank in Birmingham. jeanette Stone has become famous in the nursing field. Herbert Marsh has made a new speed record at Salt Lake City. Turning the page, we found many interesting advertisements. joyce Fields, Betty Wahl and Betty Harper are running a boarding house. Martha Nell Mills, Margie Peek, Ruth Hayden, and Norma jean Garner are running a beauty salon, giving jack Bartlett competition. Lambert 8: Murphee's department store has a full advertisement. Wanda jean Seale and jeanette Hayes are running a furni- ture store.
