Superinfendenf's Message MR. JOSEPH G. HAMPTON We believe in the following principles of education: A free public education is the right of every young person in America. Education should provide the opportunity for each individual to grow intel- lectually, morally, physically, and spiritually. It should develop esthetic interests such as music, art, literature, and nature. It should encourage recreational skills so that leisure time will be used wisely. It should teach respect for the cultures of all people, so that we may live harmoniously among nations. lt should provide an insight into the potentialities of the individual, thus insuring a greater degree of social and economic efficiency It must be concerned with the total development of each individual. ln order that education accomplish these things, our curricula must be broad and flexible and readily adaptable to a changing world. 3
