HISTORY ln the year of 1943, forty-six timid children began their first year at Jay Public School. Ten of that original still remain to graduate at Jay High. They are: Mary Lou Fields, Midge Bryant, Janice Cochran, Shirley Griffin, Glenda Rogers, Lee Bledsoe, Ernest Bledsoe, Marvin Lawson, Bob Haggard, and Alfred Howell. We were all promoted to the second grade and that year we had only one gain. He was Edwin Dunaway. No new ones were gained during our third term but in our fourth term we gained Dan Wofford, Ben Wofford, Doris Ramsey, Erma Henderson, and Carole Sue Dick. Wanda Cline, Dainty Kirby, and Yvonne Patterson joined us in our fifth year. New students joining us in our sixth year were Dave and Louise Coble. Four new students joined us in our first year of junior high. They were: Jennalea Callis, Rita Ogden, Mary Ann Stellman, and Lois Bates. We learned our first lesson in finance this year, when we honored the eighth grade graduating class with a banquet. Roddy Reid and Loren Eaton became new members of our eighth grade class. Students entering from rural grade schools increased our number in our freshman year New students were Garland Addington Boby Armstrong Omer Baker Jimmy Bohall Kenneth Dick Jim Edmondson Frank Elliott Joe Hutchison Harold Lee Bill Loftis Calvin Martin Everett Nelson Joe Netherton Ellis Stephens Gene Warren Paul Wilson Andy Wolfe Jack Gann James Hughes Christine Baker Darlene Burwell Claretta Buzzard Gypsy Carter Ida Belle Crank Charlene Dick Ruth Ann Duncan Shelba Fye Sylvia Grubbs Marvell Hogner Sue Houck Jeanne Terry Lois Nelson Marquetta Shaw Carolyn Walker and Helen Wofford Class Officers were Billy Van Dorn President Dan Wofford Vice President Wayne Graham Secretary Our Class represented by Shelba Fye won the Annual Queen Race Roberta McCall and Barbara Ayres joined us in our sophomore year Class officers were Dan Wofford President Joe Netherton Vice President Roberta McCall Secretary Again that year we won the annual queen race with Glenda Rogers as our queen Ronald Goins was the only new student joining us in our junior year Class officers were Jim Edmondson President Roberta McCall Vice President Barbara Ayres Secretary Doris Ramsey Treasurer We had an advanced lesson in finance when we raised money for the Junior Senior Banquet and Prom The theme Moon light and Roses was carried out in detail Winning second prize in the homecoming parade was a Red Letter Day in our junior year Our play 'NO MOIC Homework ' WAS one to be remembered by every junior And now we come to our last year at Jay High School Jackie Johnson was our only new student Class officers were Dan Wofford President Roddy Reid Vice President Barbara Ayres Secretary and Roberta McCall Treasurer By working hard we won both football and annual queen races with Roberta McCall as Football Queen and Doris Ramsey as Annual Queen The jangle of spurs and grizzly faces were heard and seen around school while the seniors readied for Desperate Ambrose three act western farce comdey Then the juniors entertained us with a banquet and dance Last but not least graduation 3 KVA? 4, 51.5, JN , Jud frx ,.
