USS JARRET T is named after the late Vice Admiral Harry B. Jarrett. USN (1898-1974), an outstanding destroyerman of World War II. He received the Navy Cross for heroism in the Battle of Coral Sea and served with great valor as a destroyer screen commander for the fast carrier task force operations in the Pacific as well as a bombardment group commander in the Marshalls and Marianas campaigns. He was awarded the Legion of Merit for command of his destroyer fire support in the Marianas campaign, the Silver Star Medal for gallantry in commanding the destroyer screen for carriers striking the Palaus, the Phillippines and the Marianas; the Bronze Star Medal for heroic actions as Commander Scouting Line for the fast carries force bound for the raids early in 1945 in Okinawa, Tokyo and Formosa. Upon the close of World War II, Vice Admiral commanded the light cruiser USS ASTORIA (CL 90); was a member of the staff of the Officer (Naval Reserve) under the Chief of Naval Operations; and was Senior Military Attache, Taiwan, before successive command of Destroyer Flotilla 4 and Cruiser Flotilla 4. In February 1953, he became the Deputy Inspector General, Navy Department, serving until his retirement in November 1954. FFe-33

Caplain Kendrick presents a token of apprcciaiion in gruiiiudc to members ot the Navul forces in Bali. Commander S.O. Kendrick Coniniander Stuart O. Kendrick is the son of Jack and Mary Agnes Kendrick. Fort Worth. Texas. He graduated from the University of New Mexico and was commissioned through the NROTC program 16 May 1978. He holds a degree in Computer Engineering and is a graduate of the United States Air Force Command and Staff College. Commander Kendricks sea assignments include Boiler and Machinery Officer forward aboard USS LONG BEACH (CGN 9): Damage Control Assistant aboard USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65); and after Department Head School. Operations Officer aboard USS OBRIEN (DD 975): and Executive Officer aboard USS SAMUEL GOMPERS (AD 37). Ashore he served as an Instructor Officer at the Royal Naval School of Marine Engineering. HMS SULTAN in the hydrodynamnics and mechanical engineering section; as the Naval Surface Forces Pacific Desk Officer for nuclear cruiser maintenance (N42.il): and as an advisor to the Kuwait Armed Forces for the United States Embassy. Kuwait. His personal decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal (three awards); the Navy Achievement Medal; and numerous unit commendations and citations. Commander Kendrick is married to the former Cathy Schembri of Glendale. California. They reside in Lakeside with their daughters Lynn and April, and son Scott. Captain Kendnck in his favorite chair.
