SENIOR CLASS HISTORY When one considers fhe hisfory of fhe Class of i958 of Jamesfown l-ligh School, he nofes fhaf fhe class has nof only faken good care of fhe fradifional acfivifies, buf has also been responsi- ble for several innovafions on fhe high school scene. The members of fhe class have shown a falenf for balancing fhe old wifh fhe new. ln our sophomore year, we cared for fhe ar- rangemenfs of Broadway on Second Sfreef fhrough fhe neophyfe dramafic group, Play- house. From fhe arfisfically designed program covers fo a vicfory over our more experienced classmafes in fhe compefifion, fhe evenf marked a friumph for fhe class of '58, The design chosen for class banner, during fhe early days of organizafion. is a handsome ar- rangemenf of our moffo, Upward and Onward and our flower, fhe rose on a field of class colors, green and whife. A picfure of fhe banner is used in fhis issue of fhe yearbook as a division page fo infroduce fhe classes. Keeping wifh fradifion, we elecfed fhe officers for our class on fhe same day as fhe iuniors and seniors held elecfions. We chose fhe following leaders: Presidenf ...... ,... Frank Scarpino Vice-presidenf .... .... J anef Venman Secrefary .... .. ..... Kay Tolson Treasurer ,......... ....., U If Easfman Hisforian ................ Sfephen Olson Keeper of Properfies ......, Thomas Raffa Following cusfom again, fhe class invifed par- enfs and ofher inferesfed cifizens fo fhe Sopho- more Recepfion. This evenf helps fo familiarize fhe communify wifh our school and provides an opporfunify for our families- and feachers fo meef each ofher. ln our iunior year, we sfarfed our acfivifies wifh elecfions, buf somefhing new was added. The vofers used aufomafic vofing machines fo casf fheir ballofs and fhere were fwo candidafes for each office insfead of fhe usual fhree. The resulfs were as follows: Presidenf .......... ..,, E dward Lesser Vice-presidenf ..,. . .,., Thomas Raffa Secrefary .... .......... J anef Venman Treasurer ........ .... A 'ream of Loren Carlson, Arfhur Cohn, and Charles l-larringfon represenfed fhe Class of '58 in fhe annual Charles E. l-lall debafe. Though The seniors won fhe decision, fhey knew fhey had been in a debafe when if was all over. We did our ufmosf fo make Moving-Up Day a memorable occasion, for if is always a 'rhrilling experience for undergraduafes, buf in l957, if was held in special fribufe fo our beloved refiring principal, Mr. Merfon P. Corwin. If was a pro- gram we shall remember for a long fimeq we leff our iunior sfafus and fook fhe places of fhe sen- iors soon fo graduafe. The seniors were enferfained by fhe iuniors af a luncheon-recepfion held on fhe lawn of J.l-l.S., on a big day for fhe graduafes, fhe day fhey gof fheir caps and gowns and pracficed fhe com- mencemenf processions. Music added much fo fhe fesfive air. Our senior year will provide memories for us for years fo come. There have been so many excifing fhings fo do, so many plans fo make. One of fhe mosf pleasanf parfs of fhe year has been having a foreign exchange sfudenf, Yukiko Eyama, as a classmafe. She has been acfive in our organizafions and a real addifion fo fhe senior rosfer. Our class has been led fhis year by fhe follow- ing officers: Presidenf ....... .... B ruce Hagadorn Vice-presidenf .... .... J anef Venman Secrefary ........ ...
