IMPROVING FARMING METHODS 3 . 'Sw up I 1 Harry Kems and Frank Ritenour are all smiles as they show off some of the Agriculture De- partments equipment. The main purpose of the Future Farmers of America organization is to develop rural leadership, cooperation and citizenship among its members. In the development of leadership all members served on a committee, studied and practiced par- liamentary procedure. They conducted well-planned monthly meetings, put on radio programs and spon- sored a Father-Son Banquet. They assisted their communities by organizing Keep Virginia Green Crews, in each majesterial district by the prevention of forest fires, setting out tree seedlings and repairing farm machinery. Also, the Agriculture Fair and Pure Bred Swine chains were sponsored by the club. At Christmas they as- sisted the student body in collecting 60 baskets of food for the needy. Last fall the members prepared the seedbed and seeded the newly graded playground of 6 acres and the lawn arotmd the new Kline Elementary School. 160 Spomorr: Mr. Whitacre, Mr. Givens, and Mr. Davis
