The purpose of Vocational Education in Agricul- ture is to increase proficiency in farming on the part of those engaged in farming and of prospective farm- ers. The objectives of educational activities in the home- making department include Cab development of attitudes, appreciation and ways of living with others that give dignity and importance to each person and tb? the development of abilities and skills that help in solving problems in all areas of home and family living. These areas include: CID planning, preparing and serving food, C25 selecting, constructing, and caring for mm. Madison College Degree - B.S. clothing, Q33 selecting, using, and caring for household furnishings, 643 giving home care to the sick and aged family members, C57 guiding the growth and develop- ment of children, C65 developing and maintaining good health, C75 using money and material resources for family welfare, C89 and developing good relationships in family living. MUCH FURNITURE IS ADDED TO HOMES FROM INDUSTRIAL ARTS The program of Industrial Arts at james Wood provides training in the areas of woodworking and mechanical drawing. Through mechanical drawing the boys learn a systematic way of putting their ideas for different projects on paper in the form of a working drawing, and to read and interpret cor- rectly any drawing they might be required to use in the future. Through woodworking, the students learn the proper use of hand tools and machines. Special at- tention is given to safety and maintenance of ma- chinesg also proper style, proportion and jointry of furniture. Mr. John W. Duvall Eastern Kentucky Stare Degree-B.S., and M.A. The boys are putting to use what they have learned in constructing this gun cabinet. Mr. Duvall is instructing the boys on the operation of the saw, also showing them where precautions should be taken.
