HEPHERD - - - MADISON - - - V.P.I. Higher education has become not only a want but a necessity in this modern world. In order to secure it good position and a high standing in later life, one must begin his preparation today. Therefore eacih year James Wfood sponsors a college day, during which time. the juniors and Seniors are given op- portunity to become better acquainted with colleges of their choice. Through this program, we hope to encourage all students to attend college or to further their education in other schools of higher learning. The representative from Willialii and Mary College finds interested and attentive listeners. Roger Wfright discusses the possibility of his entering Shepherd College. Sergeant Williams points out the college program offered by the Army to two inter- ested young men. Nursing is a fine profession, explains the representative from Rockingham Hospital.

The Collegians from Richmond provides won- derful music and plenty of entertainment. BEYOND THE SEA ln May the juniors presented the Seniors with a prom, whose underwater theme was Beyond the Sea. The entire gymnasium, decorated by junior commit- tees, appeared to be a vast scene on the bottom of the deep sea. Wliile dancing, one could see such things as hidden treasure boxes, fish of all kinds and colors, and mermaids swimming to the sweet music. Feet become light and quick as the tempo picks up. WV ,r, 1 -5 Our class sponsors, Mr. john Hodson and Mrs, Shirley Place, decorate the piano with the help of Junior students. 220 The surface of the water must not be forgotten as members of the decorating committee see that everything is in place.
