GUIDANCE TOWARDS THE FUTURE W'e are endeavoring to implement the above philosophy in eight broad areas. They are: I. Official Records . Official records are kept in order to present as complete a picture of the individual as possible. ll. Counseling Services Counseling involves assistance to individuals and groups concerned with educational and vocational needs and personal social adjustment. Ill. Vocational and Educational Services These services are available to help in- dividuals understand facts relating to educa- tional institutions and vocational opportunities. IV. Test Services Test services include individual and group test administration and interpretation with statistical studies designed to indicate individual and group strengths and weaknesses. V. Referral Services XVhen the guidance department personnel are unable to help solve some individual prob- lems that develop, referrals are made to special- ists. VI. Related Services An inter-exchange of ideas with admin- istrators, supervisors, teachers, parents, and patrons designed to promote better understand- ing of the individuals involved. VII. Follow-Up Services An attempt is being made- to determine the disposition of the graduates of james Wcxotl High School. We are interested in what they are doing, where and for whom they are work- ing. VIII. Evaluative Services Wie are constantly revising, revitalizing, and reinforcing our plans, materials, and find- ings, in order to best serve the needs of all members of the Frederick County School Com- munity. ,,..- f I 1' Mr. George H. Turner, Jr. Mr. James V. Hutton, J Madison College University of Virginia Shenandoah Conservatory of Music Degree-B.S. Education Degree - B. Music Education Guidance services, as applied to james Wood High School, should be thought of as organized activities designed to give systematic aid to pupils in solving their problems and in making adjustments to various situations which they must meet. These activities should assist each pupil in knowing himself as an individual and as a member of society, in mak- ing the most of his strengths and in correcting or compensating for weaknesses that interfere with his progress, in learning about occupations so that he may intelligently plan and prepare, in whole or in part, for a career, in learning about educational op- portunities available to him, and in discovering and developing creative and leisure interests. Mr. Hutton and Mr. Turner are going over a student's aptitude test as Miss Patch types the results on the permanent record.
