FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA From Left to Right: Robert Leight, Repoflerq William Herrell, Treamrer: Charles Mcllwee, Secre- mryg Mr. Givens, Sponror: David Moulden, Vice-President: Gary Henshaw, Preridenlf Harry White, Sentinel. FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA The primary aim of the Future Farmers of America is the development of agri- culture leadership, co-operation, and citizenship. Their l35 members this year participated in conducting 462 agriculture enter- prises by growing 460 acres of crops, 80 acres of fruits and vegetables and the raising of 470 head of livestock and 43,000 poultry birds. As a means of developing leadership, all members served on some committees studying and practicing parliamentary procedure. They conducted and planned monthly meetings, put on several radio programs, and sponsored a Father-Son Banquet this year. One member received the American Farmer Degree, the highest honor the National Association can bestow on a young farmer. The club helped our communities by organizing Keep Virginia Green Crews, preventing forest fires, setting out 10,000 pine tree seedlings, and repairing farm machinery. The club this year sponsored an Agriculture Fair, Pure Bred Swine Chains, and cooperated with the Polio Drive and overseas organization. This past Christmas they helped to collect 60 baskets of food for the needy. During the year the F.F.A. club took care of the school lawn and shrubbery of about 30 acres, and cooperated with other departments of the school through use of their shop tools and equipment.
