Reprererzm- tire. The Library Club is an organization con- sisting of students from the eighth through the twelfth grades who are interested in the library and the way it functions. The motto is By Our Efforts We Hope To Risef, The colors are green and gold and the flower is the yellow mum. The purpose of the Library Club is to help create a quiet, peaceful and restful en- vironment for the students and teachers who wish to use the library for browsing, study and research. Some of the activities of the club members are: 1. The members become familiar with the books by shelving them according to fiction and non-fiction which includes the Dewey Decimal System. 2. Passes are checked for accuracy. 5. The Periodical room is ready at all times for reference materials. 4. The members also assist with the cir- culation of books. Through this the club mem- bers learn to appreciate good literature and relate to other students their knowledge con- cerning the placement of books and other materials found in the library. 157

HIGHLIGHTS BETA One of our new members, Danny Stotler, pinned by the secretary, Gloria Rosenberger. 15 The Beats , their sponsors and guests all enjoy the fried chicken, mashed potatoes, peas, and ice cream which was part of their delicious dinner. Each year james Wood's Beta Club, along with many such clubs all over Virginia, journey to the Stare Conven- tion. This year, the convention was held in March at Roanoke in the Grand Hotel Roanoke. During the course of the Convention, the members attended such activities as a talent show, various educational lectures, and many campaign activities, through which they elected a stare President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. ln January the club held their annual initiation ban- quet in the school cafeteria. During the night a big chicken dinner was held in honor of the new members who were recognized, initiated, and pinned. The first night of the convention, all the members gath- ered to discuss the exciting events of the day. Membership is maintained throughout the stu- dent's high school career. The two major purposes of the Latin Club are the social and cultural development of the members. Read- LATI ing, pictures, film strips, and reports were presented periodically to enhance the members' background of in- formation concerning Roman life in the past and present.
