BETA BEAUTY CONTEST ON FRIDAY NIGHT, November 22, amid vari-colored lights and soft music, the annual Beta Club Beauty Contest was presented before a full auditorium. This yearls pro- gram was particularly interesting, because there was an added attraction of a talent contest. .KVM Long Live the Queen! 104 The judges were Mr. and Mrs. Haskell Jenkins, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ruther- ford, Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. Fleming Wise- carver, all from Clarke County. They chose Janice Brum- back as the 1957 Miss james Wood and she was crowned by the 1956 beauty, Carol Zimmerman, The other winners were: second place beauty, Lorraine Bond, third place beauty, Angela Greene, first place gown, Charlotte Alder, second place gown, Patsy Wolfe, third place gown, Peggy McCarty. The talent winners were ' af Vawaifsg ! JUNE PUTNAM Talent Wilmer chosen by the applause of the audience and were june Putnam, tap dance, fifSf Place and Faye Denson, vocal solo, second place.

IN GOOD GOVERNMENT THERE IS DIKLNUI THE STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION The primary aim of the S.G.A. at James Wood is to develope the kind of students who are worthy citizens of the school, community, and world in which we live. S.G.A. means student participation, not stu- dent self-government, for all powers are delegated. It is a service organization to provide activities for the general welfare of the student body. Among the activities are two get-acquainted parties in the fall that always draw large crowds of students to dance, enjoy refreshments, and form many new friendships besides becoming acquainted with the S.G.A. officers. The S.G.A. is an integral part of the school program because it strives to obtain a wholesome school environment where students and faculty co-operate and share responsibilities. The yearly awards for homeroom Christmas door deco- rations and the many educational assemblies are ad- ditions to the school. The S.G.A. at James Wood has been used as a model for other school S.G.A. systems and is very successful in all its activities. Every James Wood student becomes a member upon registration and the S.G.A. officers are elected by the student body as the leaders of the school. Through these leaders -the S.G.A. improves the school atmosphere. THE HONOR COUNCIL The Honor Council of the S.G.A. consists of a five classes. They hear all charges against individual chairman and one representative from each of the students and recommend penalties to the principal.
