The art courses at james W7ood are designed to develop the students' creative power and give him an understanding of the factors which make for beauty in daily life. The students work with oil paint, char- coal, colored chalk, watercolor, ink, pencil and tempera. Clay and paper sculpture, linoleum block printing is also done. ART ,.,

This training is accom- plished by means of the following courses: tenth grade-general business and typing Ig eleventh grade-typing II, short- hand I, and! or bookkeep- ingg twelfth gtade-dicta- tion and transcription and vocational office training. The department consists of four classrooms with five teachers. During the current term, there were 320 students enrolled in the department. At right, Mrs. Kave explains a prob- lem to general business students. BUSINESS TRAINING Bunk 99 The business education department trains students in a skill that will provide immediate employment upon graduation and offers to others certain courses that are not necessarily of a skill nature, but which will provide valuable in- formation to assist them in other fields. VOCATIONAI. OFFICE TRAINING Vocational office training, which is part of the Business Educa- tion department, is the final step in the business majorls program of studies. This program provides practical on-the-job training to those who have shown a desire for such, and whose school records are above average in business skills. The students are permitted during their senior year to attend classes at the school in the morning, including a class in Office Train- ing, and to work in an office in the community in the afternoon. As a result of this office experience the students are able to do actual Work learning how to meet people, how to operate various office machines, how to dress properly for the office, how to get along with others in the office, how to file and keep records, and all other phases of office procedures. At present sixteen students are enrolled in office training who are working in thirteen various offices in the community. IO1 A44 X I
