Mary Knowle s Pat Vic ker s Witnesses: Benny Bacteria Julia Germ f' J 611155 lt was back in the fall of 52 On the second of September, Our class ca ne to J. W. H. That date we all remember. Some of our big sister's met us Each had a friendly smile. They were never on the second But mostly on fourth floor. The next week the classes started, Such subjects we had never heard. We reme raber part of the stuff But not every little Word. We walked over to the college A load of books on our arms. Such a heavy load to carry But it didn't do us any harm. At 12:30 we'd come back Hurrying back to lunch, Roast beef and dressing every day For such a hungry bunch. Thanksgiving finally came Everybody hurried away To see Mom and Dad again For they had an extra day. Classes would start once more Back to our books again. These were long tiresome days For us and our teachers then. Finally we started working With shaky hands and pretended cheer The first thing the patient asked. 'I-Ioney, how long have you been here '? On May the twenty-ninth A great event took place We received our stiff white caps With a nod and a smiling face. History We'll never forget that time We'll never forget that night We were happy preclinicals You should have seen the sight. Miss Dixon gave Marie her lamp She took it by the handle As she was Walking down the steps, Off fell her little candle. After vacation time had ended We worked eight hours a day With no eating while on duty Without a cent of pay. On the second of September This was another happy day. We received our small black bands We didn't have much to say. Proudly we Wore our caps To our work and to our classes. In Obstetrics and Pathology We all were happy lasses. In February we had our banquet The seniors colors were pink and white The azalea room was enchanting Bathed in soft candle light. We received our wider bands In September of Fifty-four. We were Senior students then Our P. C. and Junior days were o'er. Later they sent us to Dix Hill To study and to work. For three months we survived Without Mrs. Griffin and Newkirk. No prying housemother To check on us at night. They never read our mail Nor turned off our lights. Hluss History No one was there to take our names They never locked us out. They thought of us as people We hope they did no doubt. Do you remember your first day When Lillian met you at the door ? She had a sack upon her head Poor thing, the clothes she wore. All of our class did return Much to our teachers surprise No one lost their mind Nor was hit on the eye. Remember our graduation On that warm night in May We were all so happy Some were thinking of their Wedding day Only three months more To work here without pay The days passed by so fast With much to do and say. There must have been a guiding hand To help us through these days. I know God must have been present When the dark days came our way, We 've spent many happy days In this old nurses' home Your time will pass my friend How fast our three years have flown. Marie Robinson Clas s Historian Usually there are treatments. 611155 Pam Early in the morning We start to work. From every little task We will never shirk. First comes the temps Then liquids and pills. Each with a purpose But all to cure ills. Next comes the food Arranged on a tray. Carried by two hands Only three times a day. We help the doctor Patch cuts and bruises. Our little carts have Just what he uses. ' We assist the doctors In every known way. Day in and day out, We heed what they say. Back to the desk. There's charting to be done, Reports to be written Before the hour of one. Wet diapers we change Some packs to apply. Or enemas to give Not again, the patient will sigh. Then linen to put out, Several beds to make. Fresh Water to give Again temps to take. And babys to feed. Formulas to fix, For The The Are Oh, the attention they need. fifteen minutes babies we show, mamas and daddies very proud we know. To see each patient A doctor will come. Checking all charts, Leaving orders on some. IT WOULDN 'T BE Kitty Barefoot's . . . . giggles Carol Bordeaux's . . , Mabel Sarah Brown's .... . . energy Gwen Chadwick's . . ....
