All the mystery and unknown of the world In these small rooms, in the few hours unfurled. Well, I guess the class of ’52 could be the only 0 ones expected to remember that important date. Our instructors and supervisors probably don’t want to be rem ' nded of it. Forty-seven of us made our way to James Walker School of Nursing. During the first six months most of our time was spent in work and study. We owe much to our instructors and supervisors for being so patient and understanding and also, to our housemothers, we say thanks for trying to keep study hours from seven to nine. The day finally came when we were to go on the halls and really do some nursing care. I’m sure that none of us ever felt quite so stupid and awkward as we did that memorable morning when we were confronted with our first patient to bathe. Well, after about two hours we accomplished that ordeal. However, we soon learned to do things well and in a short length of time. Yes, we were called “probies”, “preclinicals”, “preliminaries”, “greenhorns” and most every ether name that suits a beginner but we ignored these because we were determined to do our best and so the majority of us stuck it out. Then came our white caps. How could any of us forget our capping exercises at Trinity Methodist Church, especially the moment when Miss Masten placed a cap upon each of our heads and we repeated the Nightingale Pledge. At last we had been accepted by the School of Nursing. We received our narrow black bands next making us Juniors. How happy we were when even the doctors, especially Dr. “Bunny” noticed them. They meant accepting even more responsibility. Then came our wide bands. At last, we were Seniors. This meant Senior privileges, two eleven o’clocks a week and two twelve o’clocks a month, fewer classes and more responsibility. We remember also our Senior dance, Junior-Senior Ban- iuet and many other social events. This year we were quite fortunate in that we had ' basketball team and let’s don’t forget our skating parties. As we come to the end of three wonderrful but hard years, we’d like to say thanks to everyone that has played a part in our success. 0. Rogers, Class Historian. 69 CLASS PROPHECY More fun! More people! Wanta’ climb aboard our Future Train? All aboard —Whoops—here we go. That conductor doesn’t know what he is getting into on this trip. Gosh, just look around you. There’s Claire Culver still worki ng on her the¬ ory of a new rubber glove. I also see Betty Lanier, Jean Dickinson, and Ola Belle. They seem to be getting a kick out of their experiences in the operating room of the big Veterinarian Hospital in Chinquapin, North Carolina. Hey! What’s everyone laughing at? Oh, it’s Harriet Atkins and Ann Wayne. They must be listening to Bessie Price tell about old times on Maternity at, well, remembered J. W. M. H. For heavens’ sake—why are we stopping here? We’re only about two miles from where we started—might have known it’s Mikki Lyons. Finish putting on your hat and tell me where you’re headed, Mikki. You’re on your way to your new job in the Florida Psychiatric Hospital and Katie Hatch is going with you? You’d better keep an eye on Katie, she’s gonna be lost in Florida with her recently required Rhode Island accent. Fasten your safety belts ’cause that engineer is sure taking us over rough territory. If you’re scared of water don’t look now. Oh, but do look. Some¬ one’s waving from that shrimp boat. Well, it’s Toots and what’s Kee doing— bandaging her finger? Must be a fish hook. Bet Toots and Ike see a lot of each other now that Ike is doing Public Health work in Supply, Shallotte, and Ash. That’s a lotta work for Ike but I heard that Betty Brown—’scure me—Betty Vin¬ cent is planning on helping her and including Whiteville in their terrtory. Hey, talk louder—almost missed that one—you say Pete Huggins took a course in mid-wifery and is working in a place about forty miles from Fairmont. Gosh! We’re already in South Carolina. Those people really chose a good place to park their trailer house. Why that’s Dot’s and Jack’s trailer and do look! One, two, yes three little boys. Whew!!! Did I hear someone say that Beth had settled down to being a regular old “housewife” just ten days after we graduated? There she is now, I can’t sit still another minute, so I think I’ll go back and talk with her awhile. Is is true that Neva Allen quit nursing for awhile and is learning more about Oklahoma farming? Melva and Bill are living near Camp Lejeune. (Bill’s a Lt. now), and Edith Fergus is living up in Yankee Territory. Seems the South hasn’t won Willie over yet. You say that Martha and Jim are in furniture business at Wallace and Frances and Larry both have jobs in Washington, D. C., but Frances is going to quit work soon??? I saw Lillie Mae the other day. She seems happy in her work at Baptist Hospital and also with David. She told me that Carolyn Stone seems to be thriving in Cali¬ fornia with its Beauty, Boogie, Bubble-Gum, and Bob! 1 .’ Beatrice and Raymond own Warsaw’s largest men’s shop. Guess you heard about Margaret and Mabel? They doubled up with their weddings and had an elaborate ceremony in the living room of our old Nurses’ Home. I got letter from Jean Robbins last week. You know she is in charge of Acme-Delco General Hospital. Sarah Simmons is head nurse in the nursery there. Jean said that—-now listen closely ’cause this is hard to believe —she said that Frances Huss, Benjie Swinson, and Ida McEwen have decided to make their career as Naval Nurses! She also told me that Gloria Guthrie was in New Jersey working in a Veteran Hospital. Well, do tell me where Beulah White is. Oh, she’s still at James Walker and Peggy VanBavel is there too? Bet they are still enjoying the parties, seasons, and eh-phem, of course their work in O. R. there. Glory be! That conductor must be crazy. Am I falling? Catch me! Ah I dreaming? I’m on the floort ' Oh well, sooner or later I’ll find that Lottie isn’t such a good bed fellow after all! Guess it’s best that it was only a dream—but wonder what our future does hold?
