As we, the preclinicals of 1945, walked the halls of good old James Walker, we were very proud to be here. There were twenty of us, very shy and eager to learn. The classes were very heavy but they did not interfere with our midnight snacks and occa- sional showers with the fire extinguisher. T As days and weeks passed we lost many of our classmates. Some entered fields of matrimony while others went into the business world. At the end of our six months' period we were invited to the office where we waited eagerly to be interviewed. We were cold that we had been accepted in this school of nursing. A few days later we were planning our capping exercises. That was a very exciting night for all of us. Miss Britt and Miss Goff presented us with our white caps. That was the beginning of our training, and much loved threento eleven. We were very proud to be asked to dress the Christmas tree that year. We had a nice program and lots of fun at the party. The next morning we were awakened by girls running up and down the hall burning sparklers, which we had purchased from Taylors Fireworks. Anal now fhaf we're older Anil know a few ropes This .year will he easier, Though! we juniors, full of hopes: In our junior year we were settled enough to think about class officers. Joyce Hall was elected our President. Our class sponsors were Dr. Robertson and Miss Yount. They have been wonderful to us. One of our important events was the trip to Brookgreen Gardens in South Carolina. We were very excited making plans for our banquet, which turned out to be a very enjoyable evening. We were very proud of our corsages of carnations received from Dr. Robertson for this event. Trying fo he dignified While walking our lasf nzile, Thanking Ianzes Walker for three glorious years, We seniors depart wifh a fear anal a smile. Gee! but time flies. We have received our senior bands, and have begun to realize that our responsibilities are increasing. We were eager to receive any new ideas for our annual. Mr. Messick, our Business Advisor, is to be greatly appreciated by the Senior Class for his help in making this annual possible. Our biggest financial source was sell- ing ads and Christmas cards, but the one we enjoyed most was raffling cakes. When we think of parting it is such sweet sorrow, but as we think of what is in store for us it is easier. We want to thank everyone who helped us while we struggled through these years. We shall endeavor to hold fast to the knowledge we have obtained and high stand- ards of our profession. So here's to our future! May we reach our goal for which we have long strived. I-Iere's a note at the top of the bowl which says, Get what you want and pay for it. Dellie, my girl, I can see great things in the future for you. You in your nursery singing a sweet little lullaby to a tiny little bundle. But before this bundle you will have a very successful life in obstetrics, where you will find your Doctor McGee. Joyce and Lill, your date of graduation won't be too soon. You already can hear those bells ringing. And they don,t sound like they are ringing just for church. It couldn't be that Elwood and Robert can hear the same ones too. fCould be.j Sparkie, you are a good girl. By saying just what you think to all these sweet doctors around here. I can just see that sign on your door come true: SUPERINTENDENT OF NURSES! You, White, I see many of your rich patients and dorlofs sons returning that Pep- sodent smile. You will go a long way and see our dear old Alma Mater grow in many ways. Page, dear, anyone could just look in your face and see the typical, nice, ncat old maid, but it looks as if The Basin is going to change things. Maybe your looks. Who knows? Yes, here is 7-3 private duty in Southern Pines. Taylor, Reese, andiWard, you are as changeable as the breeze. When and if we get that R.N. attached to our names. Let's just be gypsies. See wide open spaces and love 'em and leave 'em. Myself, I think I'll join the three gypsies who are going to travel. I think four would make a nice tribe. If?????? George, Doug, Ben and John don,t interfere. We might could cruise by Hartford, Conn., Cuba, Raleigh, and the Sound. Better not look any further. I might see something.
