!.. : HUH c ? HILLCREST The President ' s Home Dr. G. Tyler Miller, President of Madison College, was born in Rappahannock County, Virginia. He re- ceived his education in the public schools there, and at Randolph Macon Academy, Virginia Military Institute, and the University of Virginia. Bridgewater College awarded him the LL.D. degree in 1955. President Miller welcomes two Freshmen, Diane Powell and Zane Campbell. His appointment as President of Madison College was made by the State Board of Edu- cation in June 194 9, after a distinguished career as an administrator of public education in Virginia which included services as princi- pal of a high school, Division Superintendent of Schools in Warren and Rappahannock Coun- ties and the City of Charlottesville, and State Superintendent of Public Instruction. He as- sumed the position as President of Madison on September 3, 1949. President Miller has always been active as a civic, church, and educational leader, as evidenced by his membership in many organi- zations and on many committees and boards. Currently, he is the liaison representative for the State of Virginia of the American Associ- ation of Colleges for Teacher Education; a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Teacher Education Institutions ; and a member of the Committee on Research and Service of the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. Dr. Miller is Senior Warden of Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Harrisonburg and a member of the Board of Trustees of Rockingham Memorial Hospital. Students, faculty, and friends of Madison College are indeed proud of its president and of the record he has made as an educator and administrator.
