Society is but an ac- cumulation of people who know how to be social- able. Madison ' s varied social functions certainly serve that pui-pose. Whether it be an informal tea at the Home Management Residence or a formal one at Hill- crest, there are many opportunities for the Fresh- men to become acquainted with upperclassmen and faculty. Enjoying a dance intermission, these students are attending one of the several formal dances held each year.

Physical fitness, good sportsmanship, and systematic routine — Can you think of a more appropriate method of rounding out a personality? The extramural fencing team instructs those interested in the techniques of the sport. Caught in action are some of the members of the extramural basket- ball team in a game with Sweet Briar. What a lot of fun Shuffleboard can be. This is one of the recreational sports in which many students spend spare time. Dance instructors have informal sessions with groups who are anxious to improve their skills.
