Upperclafsmen at Lay! JUNIOR YEAR We commenced our iunior year full of exciTemenT wiTh The anTicipaTion of being bona fide upperclassmen. Bryan Lack was our class presidenT This year, and as iuniors, we goT The ball rolling wiTh our firsT big evenT, The iunior social. We had a successful foofball season, and Then were pleasanTly surprised when The varsiTy and B baskeTball Teams won league TiTles. Names soon To be prominenf in aThleTics were cropping up and becoming familiar. In Ocfober our long-awaiTed class rings arrived, and in November we had a mighTy sTruggle wiTh The Iowa 1'esTs of Educafional Developmenf. We found iT difficulf To believe The evenTs in Dallas on November 22, The realizaTion soon sTruck home, and we ioined The Nafion in mourning. A big class meeTing was held on Jaunary 15 during which our achievemenfs and The work we had yeT To do were ouTlined. On April 14, under The direcTion of Linda Meyer and Bev. Nunes, The gymnasium was Transformed inTo a re- splendenf Grecian Gardens. ThaT nighT Nancy Harms was crowned Junior Prom Queen. Priscilla Romer, The previous year's queen, was on hand To place The crown on Nancy's head. Finding ourselves once more in The Carnival season, we somehow goT enough Thumbs TogeTher To consTrucT our class booTh. Pizza sold like hoT cakes, and we again managed To add To our class Treasury. Suddenly James Lick seemed To have shrunk. IT ap- peared ThaT we near-seniors would never come inTo our own unTil The seniors lefT. In June They did leave. We mighT have looked re- lieved, buT deep inside many of us shed a Tear or Two aT The graduaTion exercises ThaT nighT. Senior Bench-Many had ci hand in painTing iT. 4 I Ki . .Q J CandidaTes for class office make Their pifch class assembly, The Lay! Mile SENIOR YEAR As we reTurned To school in SepTember for our final year, we Thoughf of The Three long years we had anxious- ly awaifed To be seniors. The bewildered freshmen who enfered Lick back in 1961, The sophomores who sold sfrawberry shorfcake on Carnival Day in 1963, and The pizza-sellers of The 1964 ComeT Games, were now The Seniors of 1965! ln November The varsify fooTball Team won an un- dispuTed TiTle for James Lick. IT was also in November ThaT we held our firsT Senior Social. Before long iT was December, and we were geTTing ready for The annual Icicle Lane dance. A hinT of commencemenT came wiTh The ordering of graduaTion announcemenfs. WiTh The school year more Than half gone, we busied ourselves wiTh a final pull for beTTer grades and prep- arafion for The Senior Ball-A Touch of Elegance. AT long lasT The much anTicipaTed nighT of graduaTion arrived, and we sang The Alma MaTer for The lasT Time as a class group. Graduafion over, we conTemplaTed The prospecTs of forcing The challenges of The adulT world. Senior Class meeTing in cafeTorium.
